A bit disappointing the way all the first sets went. All 4 were underdogs (although I was surprised with the close 8/11 vs evens odds in Katy's match, given her lay off), but not of them were huge outsiders, and most of them were in decent positions in their first sets, before going the other way - Emilie had 3-1, Katy 2-0, Emily 3-3 etc.
Guaranteed 2 through of course, and hopefully Gabi and Jodie can join them despite their relative lack of recent tennis. Anything from Eliz will be a bonus.
Edit - I suppose when you see all 3 of the Brits ranked in the 600s and their opponents ranked in the 200/300's then there are levels involved, and all 3 were WCs. But then again, ELG was 11/4 (opponent 1/4), Emily and Beth were 3/1 (opponents 2/9), so if you put the 3 opponents in a treble to win, it would work out better than 5/6, so pretty much 50/50 that the opponents would all win, and thus, maybe not too optimistic that one of them could have sneaked a win in a home ITF.

Not really surprised at the results so far. I watched a fair bit of Katy's match on the stream, and was surprised how competitive she was after her lay-off. Hopefully Gabi can also be competitive.
I see Beth couldn't hold serve today - did well receiving though and achieved 5 breaks herself.
Emma well on her way now, 6-1 3-1*. The 2nd seed Hobgarski lost to 2018 Wimbledon jr finalist Kung, so assuming Emma comes through (and she's broken again, *4-1), then that will be a very interesting R2 match.
Garland has been pegged back to *5-5, but takes it 7-5.
Gabi went from *4-2 to 5-7.

Meanwhile, Jodie is largely superior to Lily M, if only she could keep her head, and stop going in for the am-dram that seems to be so beloved by the JTC players (surely, surely, one day, some trainer is going to take these players in hand and read them the riot act, it's ridiculous)
THere was some decent tennis there from Gabi. And she certainly looked fit and healthy (as far as one can tell).
It was pretty close.
But the other girl deserved it, just, and Gabi will be a tad disappointed and that was certainly winnable.
Maybe with a few more matches under her belt.....
If she looked well, and played some half decent stuff (I didn't get to see it), then that's important, certainly longer term, but it does seem to be a bit Groundhog Day. I remember when she lost to 544 Cascino at Woking in July, and it was generally on here like 'first match since the grass', 'not too concerned' etc. but in the 7 weeks later since that defeat she's lost to someone ranked 600, and again today to a 27 year old perennial 400+ player (all 3 in straight sets), and Gabi has now gone 2-10 since mid-March. At least with Jodie it was an obvious (unfortunate) injury, 3 months out, probably start slowly and hope she can pick up again soon, but with Gabi it's just been illness, injury and retirements throughout the year, and it's effectively been a write off year.
If she does play next week, and can get a few more matches in before the end of the season, as you say, then maybe it will be something to build on for 2020.
Tan did retire mid match last week in that Israel W60 event. She is due to be the top seed next week, so if she withdraws then that could see Katy seeded (would have come in handy today) and Emma back in the main draw (unless there are 2 SEs). Hope Tan is OK, but happy for Joanna and as she plays the Eliz/Gervais winner next, then that's a realistic chance for her to make the QF here.
Jodie won the first set on the TB, and currently on serve in the second. Sonay is 5-3* on Grace. Might try and watch the second set of that one.
