Week 38 - ITF (W25) Roehampton, Great Britain Hard

Pity but fair enough if she had an issue and maybe even misses next week - though retiring today maybe gives her more chance for next week.

She has had various what sometimes appear growing issues ( maybe had some since Wimbledon ) and looks pretty well managed as she develops her tennis career along with her studies for now.  Plenty time on her side.

An 'easy' win for Friedsam over Joanna Garland, although I didn't see the match.

Indeed, Grace Piper scored more games than Joanna did.

I see that Grace withdrew from next week's event (as did Emilie LG) - wonder why?

Meanwhile, Maria Sanchez has been on the court for nearly three hours in her singles.

I hope Freya feels ready to step up in the doubles and scamper round a bit !

The first QF on the other court has not long ended, a minute before the 3 hour mark. Top seed Pemra Ozgen won the last 9 games to take eventually it.

I don't recall anyone mentioning this before. Natasha is from South Africa and Ingid is from Slovakia

Freya and Maria were 5-1 up but it's now 5-5

Freya is SO lacking in confidence, though, she left one ball for Maria that was so far over her side Maria was in the tramline when she took it !

And yet when she HAS to do it, she's quite tidy and efficient.

But her instinct is to leave it for the other player. Or to be defensive. It's rather the same problem with her singles really. Lack of conviction.

I kind of lost interest in the single's with Emma and Jo exiting in the QF, but the final tomorrow will be between 3rd seed Friedsam and 6th seed Parrizas Diaz. I mentioned earlier how Friedsam (formerly a top 50 player) had beaten 5 or 6 top 100 players in the past 3 or 4 months since her return from her injury nightmares, so really should be a level above this, but she is still just outside the top 200, so from her POV, if she can get 60-100 points from these 2 events, largely against (relatively) modest opposition, then it will put her in good stead to get back to nearer where she has been before, but just a bit annoying for anyone who draws her early.

OK, so after the monumental collapse in the first set (from 5-1 to 5-7), we're now 5-1 up again in the second.....

And they win the second but lose the MTB 10-7 ::((

That first set was such a ridiculous collapse.....
