Grade A in name anyway.

All the best to Matilda but surely an exceptionally weak Grade A field.

Yes, if ranking points are what she's after, this is brilliant scheduling. I don't see anyone who should trouble her before the semifinal.

Nice chance for a big ranking boost then.

A comfortable opener as expected. Her next opponent has won a couple of matches in $15K events.

R3

(15) Rebecca Lynn (USA) v (2) Matilda Mutavdzic

Matilda negotiated her way comfortably to the quarter-finals. Unusually all top 8 seeds reached this stage

R3

(2) Matilda Mutavdzic d. (15) Rebecca Lynn (USA)

QF

(7) Fatima Ingrid Amartha Keita (ROU) v (2) Matilda Mutavdzic

So these girls are all getting 100 points for getting to the QFs here?

No knocking Matilda in any way but that's ridiculous, when you look at their rankings.

It's certainly going to give some very inflated rankings when the points go on - other players will love to get them as seeds later on.

Although it is short on established juniors there are two of the three top ranked 2005 girls here, who will surely be near the top before long. Matilda plays one of them having squeaked past an on paper weaker opponent today. Alexandra Eala has conceded no more than 2 games in any set so far, including a win over last week's Grade 2 winner today

R3

(2) Matilda Mutavdzic d. (15) Rebecca Lynn (USA) 6-3 6-1

QF

(2) Matilda Mutavdzic d. (7) Fatima Ingrid Amartha Keita (ROU) 3-6 7-6(5) 6-1

SF

(4) Alexandra Eala (PHI) v (2) Matilda Mutavdzic

Doubles SF

(4) Eala/Kalieva (PHI/USA) v (2) Falkner/Mutavdzic (SLO/GBR)

Matilda gave Alexandra her first tough match of the week, but it is the two 2005 girls who contest the final. Some revenge in the doubles though to earn her first Grade A final

SF

(4) Alexandra Eala (PHI) d. (2) Matilda Mutavdzic 6-4 1-6 6-3

Doubles SF

(2) Falkner/Mutavdzic (SLO/GBR) d. (4) Eala/Kalieva (PHI/USA) 7-6(3) 0-6 [10-8]

F

(1) Baszak/Fruhvirtova (POL/CZE) v (2) Falkner/Mutavdzic (SLO/GBR)

We have a Grade A champion (just) smile The points should be enough to take Matilda into the top 40

Congrats to Matilda !

As you say, David, two 2005 girls are into the final.

And I just saw that another 2005 girl has won the G3 in Spain.

Feeling old .....

Well spotted - the girl who has just won in Spain (Victoria Jiminez Kasintseva) has I see won Grade 5/4 and 3 events previously this year.  The most interesting aspect though is her nationality is Andorran, and is their only currently ranked junior player. In fact I can't see any record of a female Andorran with a pro ranking ever, so she seems to be a trailblazer

Good week for Matilda.

Hope to see her in Eddie Her and Orange Bowl later in the year.

Wonder what her plans are before then?

Matilda's conqueror Eala has won the title, beating the top seed and very promising Linda Fruhvirtova 6-3 6-3, so Matilda was the only one to take a set off her this week.
