I just wanted to share my favorite thing about tennis

When I was a child, my father used to take me to play tennis. We were on our way home one afternoon and listening to a tennis show on the radio. There was a former tour pro on--his name escapes me--and he had posed an interesting question:

What is the most important shot in tennis?

Caller after caller tried to answer it. One guy said second serve, citing the old adage: a tennis player is only as good as his second serve. One guy said the forehand, as that was the shot you're supposed to rip winners with. People kept trying to answer and we must have heard half a dozen callers fail to get the right answer.

After everything, the tennis pro answered that the most important shot in tennis isn't the forehand, backhand, serve, or volley, but hitting the ball in one time more than your opponent. My father and I had arrived at home and were sitting in the car listening for a good half hour because we just had to know the answer.

The former pro got a lot of eye rolls for that, but over time I have understood the wisdom of his words. It doesn't matter how you do it. It just matters that you do it. All that matters is you hit the ball over the net and into the court last.reverse phone lookup nba reddit pcpartpicker
