Freya+ take the first set 7-6(3)
Tight first set, with breaks in the 11th and 12 games only.
Lissey and Victoria failed to serve it out after excellent service figures throughout the set - 84 first serves in and 69% won.
Denmark's young Clara Tauson (born 2002) has been going through the draw like butter, taking out the 4th and 6th seeds, for the loss of a few measly games.
(She's the junior who won the Aussie Junior Open, and then pretty much quit juniors, I think. She beat Emma Raducanu in the Taralgon tournament in January, in three sets).
And I was just about to say she's due to play in Roehampton next week, but any more wins here and she will likely withdraw, however, having just looked at the current entry list, she's an LWM as of today. The aforementioned 4th seed (Shinikova, who beat Jodie earlier in the event) has also just withdrawn today, so Jodie should now be a seed.
Would have been quite nice for anyone going to see a young talent like Tauson, but it's a dangerous player removed should any of our players drawn her. I see reigning Wimbledon Jr champ Snigur is due to play the 2nd Roehampton event.
I'm watching the entry list closely, as I intend to go on Monday or Tuesday, depending on who makes the MD and who is in qualies.
BTW, I see Katie Boulter and Laura Robson are training atm at the NTC ...........
QF: Freya Christie / Raluca Georgiana Serban (CYP) CR 451 (207+244) [1] LOST TO Anastasia GASANOVA (RUS) Valeriya STRAKHOVA (UKR) CR 837(420+417) 2-6 (11)6-7
They were a break up in the second set at one point, but lost it immediately. Couldn't take 4 set points in the tie-break, and lost on the 3rd match point.

Yeah, just saw your post on the entries thread. I think there's one active player in the quals list who could still qualify for an SE, but that's mainly because there's a backlog of matches at Pula, and I doubt she'd be a contender to get to the final anyway. Hopefully there's 1 or 2 more withdrawals to allow extra British faces in to the draw directly, save WCs if required, and give others the chance to play.
It would also be nice if Katie B is almost ready to return and effectively just biding time before she qualifies for a PR. Plenty of ITF events at the back end of the year if she is ready to play, particularly in the US, and could save those 8 PR events until next year.
Tauson won this title, so that's her second W60 this year. She beat beat Hobgarski in 3 sets in the final, who is meant to be the 2nd seed at Roehampton next week. I wonder if she thinks W60 F points this week is enough for her and withdraws, allowing Emma in directly?
Tauson didnt receive her 80 points for winning this as she withdrew from Zhengzhou qualifying to play, which is against the rules, so she remains outside the top 300. At 16, and clearly a talent, getting some good match practice in against circa 200 players will be just as important as points (if not more), and it's probably not the same as if it was a 24/25 year old ITF slogger looking for that one breakthrough to elevate her career, but it will still be pretty annoying for her.
She will almost certainly get a QWC for the AO as the reigning junior champ, but this could be the difference between qualifying directly and relying on that.
