Hmm, none are great. Jodie did thrash Shinikova at Bolton earlier in the year, but she's obviously just on the road back, so a qualifier or WC would have been nicer here. A seed for Maia, although pretty similarly ranked, and a recent Wimbledon jr finalist for Lissey. I'd take one win from those.
Just assumed Jodie was on a hot streak having beaten Kalinskaya by the same margin a round earlier or later, and Shinikova not retiring when it was obvious she wouldn't turn it around, when many would if suffering. Probably can't take too much from that then, and with Jodie unsurprisingly not firing on all cylinders last week given her lay off, could be a tall ask
The thing is, I can now actually remember watching that match on a stream, flicking between that and Emma R's equally dominant scoreline with Badosa, as they were on at pretty much the same time, and I didn't really notice anything, but I know paulisi often attends these events in and around the North West, so if he was there, he'd have been paying far more attention than me.
I have noticed that the bookies do have Jodie 1.5 to win (so 1/2), despite the 3 month lay off, defeat to Lissey last week, and the ranking difference (although that's obviously not helped by said lay off). That will likely be influenced by that previous meeting in April, so therefore taking everything into account, circa 6/4 probably does look good value on the Bulgarian, albeit you'd either have to bet relatively big to get a significant return, or combine it with something else.

Shinikova about to try and serve for the second set for a second time, 5-6*. The serve doesn't seem to be firing. 6 of Shinkova's 10 games won have been breaks, and more than half of her total points won have been return points as well - it was quite similar last week, Alicia managed to break her 5 times and the 2nd Israeli opponent had 4 breaks in her 7 games won. Jodie's only had 4 DFs, which is less than half of her opponent, so that's not an issue, but it's not really been a weapon yet in her return.
Jodie did actually break again whilst I was writing that out, so into a TB, where Shinikova has an early mini break.
Ahh, Jodie saved 5 SPs from *1-6 in the tie break, but ended up losing it 6-8, so into a decider. 6-4 6-7(6) 0-0*

Jodie was a break up and suddenly her arm went to lead and her feet refused to move (nerves, I imagine). Got broken and looked down and out. She picked it up though and had plenty, but plenty, of chances. (Was 1-6 down in the TB too before getting it back to 6-6). Just balked at the last.
I know this isn't the right place to say this, but can I ask where that picture at the top of the page has come from - the "tinypic". PersonallyI find it a bit irritating having to scroll down every time rather than being able to read the posts at the top of the screen. Sorry if this causes offence to whoever did this - just my personal opinion. Thanks
