L48:  James Ward WR 281 (CH = 89 in July 2015) vs Renta Tokuda (JPN) WR 471 (CH = 289 in August last year)

The winner will play the Indian top seed, Prajnesh Gunneswaren.

So 5 points for beating the WR 471. If he beats the top seed ranked W 85 he gets another umm 3 points?? Just weird

 agreed, the Challenger points particularly in Rds1 and 2 make no logical sense. 

Longer term ie 2020 season, does anyone know if Challengers revert back to 32 draw events, I am not sure I have ever got used to 48 draw events , at least not yet.

I guess they want to cap L16 points at 8 points, and to be honest I prefer players getting 5 points than 3 points for a Round One Challenger win. Still comes across as a little strange though I admit

James played really well there, from what I saw. Lost 6-4 7-6

But the second set, in particular, was very close.
