Heather played two good games to finish the set and take the win 7-6 6-4. Never dominant but good enough. Lao looked better than WR 174.

Heather only dropped two points on serve in five games in the second set - much better performance. Could have got the break earlier than the 9th game as well. I thought she looked very confident at the end.

Yep, live at 98 and nobody can can her - possibly just for one week as she has 110 points from WTA Quebec dropping off next week, but she can cover that further, as there's still 103 points to play for here with a couple more wins. It'll be nice to see another Brit in that elusive top 100 though when the rankings come out on Monday.

In the short term she'll do well to stay there for the following week's 16/09 rankings with 110 WTA International Quebec City points from last year coming off.

So might as well go on and win the title here and then the 160 points for that will more than cover these 110 points plus the 40 points coming off this week. SF so far is 57 points, RU would be 95 points.

And after that only 59 (20+10+29) points due off during the remainder of the year.

It's 20 year old Arconada up next for Hev. It's the best opponent of the remaining players on paper, as she is the only non seeded player, but should be an interesting match. She's not dropped a set yet, and dispatched of Naomi (although that's not necessarily saying much these days), as well as 2 top 100 players, and like Heather has a fairly recent ITF title. Tough but winnable I'd suggest. I have seen a couple of her matches on the US ITF scene in recent month as well as her USO quals defeat, and it's difficult to judge her level - she's clearly been in very good form recently and is obviously still very young, but I think she did have a lack of power. She was quite fiesty from what I can remember.

On a side note, she's currently a set and a break up in her dubs against Naomi.

They were 3-6 *3-5 (*15-40) down.

Now 4-5* and need to break.
