Takes it 6-4. Well done Heather, a rare win against a higher ranked player. Strange match. Heather was superb in the first set, aggressive and dominant making her opponent run around. Second set she became timid, trading sliced forehands and backhands and rushing forward with almost 0% success. She threw her racquet and started to play with her shoes which usually signals the end is nigh. Third set was a roller coaster and could have gone either way but Heather was the stronger player and deserved to win. Hopefully lessons have been learned and she can go further. She will enjoy the doubles later anyway.

I was just looking into this. She's only had 7 of these in the past 12 months, but 4 have been since the grass (and 2 in North America against today's opponent), so there is progress there. The one win that massively stands out is Kenin in Beijing last October - I'm sure it would have been considered a pretty big upset at the time, but if it happned today, it would be huge.
Great to see Heather gettings some win here and, with the top seed retiring in her QF to ease the path, fingers crossed Heather can go all the way this week :)
