That looks like a relatively easy, gently comeback match.

Jodie won 3 & 1

It may only be 1 pt against unhostile opposition, but it's one that Jodie will be very happy with. Lovely to see her back

The two to play so far. In that 2nd set, Tiff was 5-3 up, then in the TB was 2-5 down, before winning the last 5 pts, when the retirement then occurred.

Maia just broke when the opponent was serving for the set; still work to do to save it though. *3-5

But was then broken for a 4th time, so will have to come from a set down again if she's going to progress here. 3-6.

Maia at risk here of being very embarrassed .. she's been broken at the start of the 2nd set too.

Maia lost 3 and 1. Although it might not be the best thing to hope for, I'd still wish that she had some form of injury to explain quite such a poor result in the first round of a W15 as 2nd seed.

I was going to say you could maybe hopefully put it down to her having an attitude of made a final last week, far bigger event next week, just see what happens here, but I'm not sure that's the case. The fact is, Maia's level really has been 400-500 for months now. I'm repeating a lot of that W25 post the other day, but she's lost badly to Gervais and Eden in recent weeks, winning 7 games combined - you can obviously have the odd bad day, but those defeats combined with losing 2 and 4 to Lily, and then dropping sets to players 700+ and outside the top 1000 - she's been poor for a while. Her best win last week was someone outside the top 450, and again in 3 sets, so that to me suggests that is more her (current) level than the circa 250 the official figures will show.

Lou Adler is by no means a great player, she often plays the UK events and lost to Lissey in Chiswick the other week, but she is currently a 500-600 player, and this Israeli opponent today has beaten her twice in recent months - www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/player.cgi, so she has beaten players in that range, and at the moment, the recent results have shown Maia isn't playing too much above that level, so while clearly still a shock, it's not that unheard of.

Maia has decided that she needs a few days off before hopefully concentrating on tennis again next week but Alicia needs the points and so has taken the first set 6-0

Guess Maia is a bit overranked. I reckon that she should be about WR 324 in November ( GB #10 )

After that tine to push on again.

I was thinking nearer 323, ha.

I'd still personally say something in and around that was more her actual natural level, rather than the 400-500 (current level) I suggested in the previous post. Home WCs are supposed to help with development and give someone a chance to play, and possibly beat, someone they normally wouldn't get the opportunity to play, but for her to draw a QWC like Tara at WTA Nottingham, and especially to then have it on her preferred indoors surface, with balls flying around from other courts, which literally could have been R1 at the upcoming Roehampton with 5 points on the line, to receive 30 points for winning that match is an absolute gift. Other overseas players will likely have benefited from similar situations, but without those 30 points alone, she's already heading towards the 300 mark, and last week's W25 was particularly weak to enhance (or inflate) it further.

She's proven she is above the level she is currently playing at (recent months) by winning that Shrewsbury W25 last November, beating some good players, and also doing reasonably well in Glasgow and Shrewsbury at the start of the year, but I remember someone on here (paulisi I think) saying she was hobbling around when he saw her at one of those GB events, and then she had about 6 weeks off until April and hasn't really been the same since, so it may still be linked to that, but her current level, for whatever reason, is well off what we have been used to, despite her ranking suggesting otherwise.

Freya's opponent served 3 DFS in the first game gifting the game to Freya. Freya then began with a DF and although she managed not to serve any more DFs

she gave up her game tamely so 1-1

Hope she is able to serve at her usual speed without thinking of dfs as the match continues.
