Maybe Andy can go out on Rafa's boat now!

The "injury scare" that has been mentioned online turned out to be cramp.

Stuart Fraser tweeting this Andy comment

"I'm cramping. Very tired. I would have liked to have played more matches but it was good. I played two competitive matches. Physically I need to get better."

I guess it's few more matches under his belt, and that he's going to at least know better what to work on and have a better idea if he's ever going to get back to the top. It'll be interesting to see what he says about the week.

If the big issue for now is needing to get better physically then we just know that will be done.

I don't think we are that much further forward as to feeling where he can ultimately get to again. But there are some good signs.

Now how will his body and particularly hip react as the physicality is intensified?

I still firmly believe as Ive said most of this year that Andy will call it a day at the end of the year. Yesterdays result has convinced me even more. I honestly cant see him at the Aus Open. I hope Im wrong but if he cant get to ATP winning level by the end of November then he never will.

Like you, I hope you're wrong too.  Only time will tell of course but I do think that even if fully healthy, it would take someone 6 months to regain full fitness levels after such a lay off.  We will just have to keep our fingers crossed.

On the other hand I now, even more than before his singles return, believe we will see Andy in singles action at the Australian Open. He will address the inevitable current fitness issues so will clearly get much better in that respect as long as there is no breakdown.

Underestimate his determination, overestimate how content he will be to now pain free give it all up for family and other interests, at your peril.

Of course he cares hugely about his family and I think he has mentioned, even when further away, how great it would be to do something in tennis again with his daughters there.

It's mainly though that single minded determination that will to me likely keep him going.

Of course, he may have to conclude that it just won't happen at a level to satisfy him and then we are in different territory.

But I think he will be competing in Melbourne. We shall see ...

He looks a really decent prospect from the footage I have seen, without the best player they have had since Jarko Niem
