Gauff's so young and doing so well, it doesn't matter in the slightest.
But when I heard people had booed Naomi (because of the Serena match...uh?.....what?....how?....), I was SO rooting for her.
Naomi again showed her class. She is the definition of role model, I am sure she will make a mistake somewhere down the line but for the time being just being herself is very Impressive for one so young.
Very thoughtful of Naomi to take charge and look after the youngster at the end, it's great to see the camaraderie between the players. It reminded me of the Fed Cup tie this year (2019) where Jo Konta only just squeaked past Hungary's Anna Bondar in the third set tie-break, Jo was very complementary of her opponent after that match in the interview on court, and the crowd gave the crestfallen Hungarian player a standing ovation.

After Barty's defeat Pliskova would have definitely gone to WR 1 if she had reached the SF here. Not to be
Osaka will now need to retain the title to stay at WR 1 ahead of Barty. Of course if someone beat her in say the final that would be another spanner in the works.
Superb! Not good for British tennis that her performances are not on terrestrial television. I dont know what the U.K. viewing figures are but pretty certain they will be dire!
I wouldn't be surprised if its better than being on Sky tbh. Due to the range of benefits Prime gives there are a lot of causal sports viewers who wont pay for Sky but have Prime. And with the 30 day trial and the fact you can also just sub to the video part on a month by month basis unlike sky where you have to commit to a base contract and a sports package contract
Great performance overall from Jo in what was not an easy match to navigate through. Pliskova definitely blinked on her last service game giving Jo the chance to serve it out. That wasnt easy but she got there! Good luck in the QF.

Absolutely brilliant from Jo. Watching on a mini ipad piggybacking off my IPhone with my 96 year old mother - she loved it and thinks it is time she got the internet - I do agree !!!!
I think this makes Konta the only woman to have made at least QFs in 3 slams this year. Svitolina could join her in that feat.
As Ace said, Serena has now made at least the QFs of 3 Slams this year. I have another one though ...
Again, unless Svitolina beats Keys tonight, I think that Jo wil be the only woman to reach at least the QF in all 4 Slams in the 3 years since 2017.
I have checked on players a fair way down the rankings and on some other 'names' and I have found 8 on 3 but no-one else having made all 4 Slam QFs since 2017. These 8 are :
Svitolina - never made the USO QF 'so far'.
Ka Pliskova - never made the Wimbledon QF.
Halep - not made the USO QF since 2016.
S Williams - not made the RG QF since RU in 2016.
Keys - not made the Wimbledon QF since 2015.
Kerber - not made the USO QF since winning it in 2016.
V Williams - not made the RG QF since 2006.
Muguruza - never made the US Open QF.
All that will be rather more interesting come tomorrow if Svitolina hasn't reached the QF here!
It is Svitolina next for Konta as she reasonably comfortably saw off Keys in straight sets, and never looked like being broken throughout. I'm quite pleased. She will likely start as favourite (Elina) and Jo hasn't beaten her in 3 attempts, but while she is one of the most consistent players on tour, I don't think she's got that almost 'unplayable' level that Keys does occasionslly have in her locker, plus there likely won't be any obvious crowd favourite now.
Assuming Serena is fit to play Wang Qiang on Tuesday, you'd probably think that would be the night match and Konta-Svitolina would be the day match.
Edit - it's actually 4-0 Svitolina. They met 6 years ago in an ITF.

Hmm, congratulations to Svitolina on joining Jo in making the QF of all 4 Slams since 2017. So Jo doesn't get that particular niche stat to herself.
They now of course meet and it is the 6th Slam QF for each. Elina is 1/5 in QFs won ( Wimbledon this year ). Jo is 3/5 and going for a Grand Slam of SFs, well for a GS of at least SFs!
Now I wonder how many players have reached the SF of all 4 Slams since 2016?

Actually it was well done Jo. However the task gets that much harder with Svitolina , a player she has never beaten(every meeting has been on hard courts) and who is yet to drop a set at this years Open.

In reaching the quarter finals of each of the Grand Slams Jo has joined a small elite of British women players. The other Britons to have achieved this feat are Jo Durie, Ann Jones and Virginia Wade in the Open Era. In the Pre Open era we have Angela Mortimer and Christine Truman. Mortimer, Truman and Jones also reached at least the semi finals of all the Grand Slams. Sue Barker never achieved the feat. I wonder with the benefit of hindsight whether Australia would have continued funding Jo if they had known how successful she would be.
