Sounds like an idea for an in depth WTA article.

... and now the other seed in Jo's 1/16th. Could meet in R3.

Harriet vs fellow qualifer Ana Bogdan.

Very acceptable.

I mentioned in the qualifying thread that Harriet was 6-0 in Slam qualifying matches this year. Steven has tweeted that with her two Wimbledon MD wins that makes her 8-2 overall in Slams ( MD plus Q ). Losses were to Sharapova and Barty.

Order of play is out. Jo and Harriet both on first on the Monday which is pretty unfortunate (4pm). Serena vs Maria is first on Ashe that night - so I'll stay up for that.

I suppose it is a bank holiday which helps, but would have been nice if they were spread out a bit - thought there might have been some consideration considering there were 9 Q matches involving Brits and they were all streamed, which I didn't think was just random, but one on the TV and one on the laptop it is.

I managed to get some decent (albeit expensive) tickets for Monday night. I'm hoping there's still a big twist in the Serena Maria tale.

Looks like all the Brits bar Kyle are playing Monday?

Lucky you, savour it, they've not played for almost 4 years and you never know, it may be the final time they do. I'd personally love Maria to win, not that I see that happening, but the whole traditional Ashe kick off show and then that to follow sounds brilliant.

Rather intrigued by the number of top seeds drawn against Q/LLs I looked at the top 8 seeds' draws.

1. Osaka vs Blinkova WR 93
2. Barty vs Diyas WR 77
3. Ka Pliskova vs (Q) Martincova WR 139
4. Halep vs (LL) Gibbs WR 135
5. Svitolina vs (WC) Osuigwe WR 107
6. Kvitova vs (Q) Allertova WR 279
7. Bertens vs (LL) Badosa WR 91
8. S Williams vs Sharapova WR 87

Could have been tougher !

I recall a few years ago questions being asked about successive US Open draws that appeared to be testing statistical boundaries on general favourability for top seeds.

Think it all just passed with - nothing to see here.

Clearly the bug just looks at current rankings rather than past CHs and/or glories

Think tomorrow ( well, later today ! ) I'll have a little look at the top men's seeds' draws. No doubt come out much less skewed but I'm interested ...

Edit: and indeed the men's top seeds' draw wasn't really skewed at all, as posted in the men's thread.

You have to say that Serena's section looks especially easy.  She should easily beat Sharapova, presuming both will actually be fit enough, and then face a couple of pretty straightforward matches to allow her to warm up.

Jo's first round match is very tricky. Quite possible Harriet might advance further.

Harriet has a fabulous opportunity to make the 2nd round, 3rd round isn't out of reach but anything further would be exceptional

I've been out for a few days in France (including playing tennis actually) and will likely be out for much of the next 1-2 days too. But just to update this draw to include Harriet as well.

R128: Jo KONTA (GBR) [16] 16 vs Daria KASATKINA (RUS) 42 (CH:10 Oct 18)
R128: Harriet DART (GBR) [Q] 140 vs Ana Bogdan [Q] (ROU) 147 (CH:59 June18)

Another LL enters the fray, with Flipkens in for Barthel (faces Tsurenko)

Outside of Konta and Dart, which both may be over by 6pm, and the big one, which other WTA matches are people most looking forward to today?
