Week 35/36 - US Open, Flushing Meadows, New York City (hard)

Just a little fun:

Fallon Tonight @FallonTonight

#USOpen stars such as @andy_murray, @Naomi_Osaka_ & Novak Djokovic (@DjokerNole) casually sneak weird phrases into their interviews in Drop It In

Final: Rafa vs Medvedev

If Rafa wins he is 1 slam title behind Federer.
If Medvedev wins he will be the first new slam winner since Cilic in 2014.

Nadal 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 Medvedev

2 sets all.

Nadal's Slam record from 2 sets to 0 up is W 205 L 1. The one loss was to Fognini in the 2005 US Open L32.

Make that 206 to 1.

Nadal wins 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4

Medvedev had 3 BPs in the first game of the final set. Nadal went a double break up and served for it at *5-2 against a half dead Medvedev. Medvedev broke back and had a BP as a half dead Nadal served for it again at *5-4. Nadal though got across the line. 5 all would have been quite interesting!

Nadal moves up to a total of 19 Slam singles titles, now just 1 behind Federer. It's his 4th US Open title.

Congratulations to Rafa. Sounds like quite a match!
And more good news - Alfie and Gordon won the wheelchair doubles

Also just seen that Andy Lapthorne and partner won the wheelchair quad doubles

Three years ago at Roehampton, I watched Daniil Medvedev lose to Marcus Willis in Wimbledon qualifying, the angry Russian unable to deal with the "junk balls" coming his way. Look at him now... #USOpen

I'd read about the record attendance this year. It seems they often though found better things to do in the grounds than sit and watch tennis matches judging by some very sparse stadium crowds.
