Last 16 in 2016, last 32 in 2017 and now 2 straight first round losses against very beatable opposition. Very sad to see how far backwards he has gone at this event.

He has only won two matches in the last five slams.

I know Andrew Castle gets up a lot of people's noses (mine included), but he does come out in defence of Kyle's patchy record since last year's AO in his column in today's Metro.  He also has some choice words to say about the odious Kyrgios...

P.S.  I see what people mean about Kyle's kit, but feel it is nowhere near as bad as the one he wore at Roland-Garros... wink

It's a rosey picture Castle paints of Kyle's future. He could be right and I hope he is. I am not as sure though.

A convincing loss today for Evo, but still great to see the strides he has made since his ban for drug taking or dealing, I forget which. Many lesser characters wouldnt have slammed back into the top 50 like he has.

BBc and guardian point out that Federer had a full day to recover, while Dan had a longer match and much less time, and was not fully recovered.  Fed even shouted back at the reporters that he'd not requested a morning match, not like him to lose his cool.

Good that Dan's come through doubles with Cam, their 3rd set stats were really convincing.

Europe continue to have a stranglehold on top level men's tennis.

Of the last 16 players, 14 are European. (Only Schwartzmann (ARG) and de Minaur (AUS) rock the boat)

In terms of breakdown, it's pretty spread out, no country with three players, but:

2 Swiss, 2 Germans, 2 Spaniards, & 2 Russians

In age, we've got a range from age 20 to age 38. Seven are over 30, five are under 25

The average is 28.125

In terms of height, six are 6 ft or less (with 5 ft 7 being the shortest). No one is over 6 ft 6.

The listed weight figures (a few seem questionable!) range from 64 kg to 90 kg.

Make of all that what you will......

Very pleased for Evo, arguably getting caught for using coke is the best thing that could have happened to him, he now truly appreciates and values his talent. The last 18 months of his career have been magnificent, I am sure there are little things he can work on to improve but realistically he has given it is his best effort and is reaping the rewards.

Medvedev, the most hated player since Novak?

Djokovic retired vs Wawrinka 2 sets and an early 3rd set break down. That left shoulder apparently.

So Vandy doesn't get his dream QF match up.

Top half QFs :
Wawrinka vs Medvedev
Federer vs Dimitrov

If Rafa goes onto win this week, he will be circa 2000 points clear of novak and looking like a lock for year end top spot

Does anyone know,  is Medvedev related to Andrei Medvedev who reached a French Open final in the 90's ( I think) and lost to Agassi in 5 sets?

No, not related. Andrei is Ukranian

With people loving to jump up and down about Nick K's 'disgraceful' behaviour, just to point out that Mike Bryan has been fined $10,000 for pretending to shoot an official with his racket after an incorrect call.

And quite right.....

That type of logic is really not on. Phil Dent was Australian, with Taylor being a ranch hand.
