Last 16 in 2016, last 32 in 2017 and now 2 straight first round losses against very beatable opposition. Very sad to see how far backwards he has gone at this event.

He has only won two matches in the last five slams.

I know Andrew Castle gets up a lot of people's noses (mine included), but he does come out in defence of Kyle's patchy record since last year's AO in his column in today's Metro.  He also has some choice words to say about the odious Kyrgios...

P.S.  I see what people mean about Kyle's kit, but feel it is nowhere near as bad as the one he wore at Roland-Garros... wink

I think this is a really balanced article by castle, both about kyle and nick. To be fair to him, he has been on this tour, won atp in Seoul if I recall and knows players. Nick k is marmite, really, I like him and like that we have someone different. Re kyle, dispassionately he is right I am sure to say he will come back.

Odious is a term Id use for Castle not Nick. Beneath all Nicks antics I believe he is a decent person. Castle is a buffoon.

As Tara Moore said, Nick Kyrgios is one of the best players on tour in giving his time to the kids, in all the kids' days that the events run.
And has his own charity which, quietly and without blowing his own trumpet, is doing some wonderful work.
The man doesn't behave quite as he should on some occasions but I agree that he is a decent person and his actions show this, even if his rather hot-headed comments don't always.

Why is Evo first on? Surely Fed is usually the evening match?

With both Djokovic and Federer playing today, one of them had to be in the day session. At least we can get to watch at a reasonable time (if I can get home that early for once !)

Roger's service games are absurdly quick. Roger is just too good.  Dan's serve stats are not great, but he isn't playing badly.  Roger is just way too good.

Can't see anyone apart from the big servers living with Federer when he's in this form.

Roger is on form but Dan is playing pretty mediocrely in my view.

Well sadly that was over rather quickly.

I am sure Dan will be disappointed, but Federer has done that to many players over the last 20 years. Hope Dan can be philosophical and just move on. His trajectory is still going in the right direction.

Well done to one of your faves, Bob, young Alex de Minaur, through to the last 16 in style

Seem to remember it was you that pointed me in his direction. That's what they call a good tip.

Wouldn't rule him out going one step further but then he is likely to run into Federer.

I see Kyrgios vs Rublev is the night match on Ashe tomorrow ( and currently on Ashe in a doubles match vs Ken+ ).

I think that the US Open like myself and many others judge that Nick is a net plus for tennis at the moment, if maybe for varying reasons. Yes, I do wish he would mature in some areas that continue to disappoint, making some punishment necessary, but on balance I'm glad that he's around.

Bring your talent to the fore, mate.
