I've always thought there were quite a few similarities between Pouille's game and Kyle's. I know the forehand technique is not quite the same but, to me, they're cut from the same cloth.
L64: Daniel Evans WR 58 defeated (25) Lucas Pouille (FRA) WR 27 by 6-4 6-3 6-7(4) 6-4
70+ unforced errors from the latter.
A quote from Jill Craybas at the end of the second set on 5 Live sports extra:
He's playing really good, he's playing smart too and really consistent. The pressure that he keeps applying is really flustering Pouille. It's really disrupted Pouille's rhythm.
And Jonathan Jurejko shortly afterwards:
No excessive celebration from Dan Evans. A simple shake of a clenched right fist will do. Hes completely in command, knowing he needs to keep his composure to see this match out. The Brit also knows, judging by his wary side-glance across the net as he goes back to his chair, Pouille could combust here.
Dan could've spared himself that tie-break, mind...

L32: (3) Roger Federer (SUI) WR 3 (CH = 1 [for the first time] in February 2004) vs Daniel Evans WR 58
They've met in Grand Slams twice before (last 32 at Wimbledon in 2016 & the last 64 of the AO earlier this year). Roger the Lodger won both matches in straight sets.
Great work from Evo. Will be interesting to see how the Federer match goes now that they have trained together. Maybe Dan has picked up a few tips on how to beat the GOAT.
I would like to point to Evo, if he's reading this (!), that I watched the first two sets, which he won easily. And then had to go and eat during an hour or so (where he promptly lost his way). And came back at 4-4 - at which point Dan switched into 'close it out' mode and all was good. All I can say, is: Dan, you're welcome
