There will be a new thread in time but Jo gets a tricky opener against Kasatkina
To be honest Jo will have to do better than she has managed in North America so far. She will also have to do better than she has managed in her last 2 meetings against Kasatkina.
But then Kasatkina isn't playing as well as those previous meetings with Jo when she was ranked #24 and #12. Kastatkina is having a disappointing season by her standards and is 42 in the rankings, but that also includes the 470 points she got for winning Moscow last October (where she beat Jo in the SF), hence she is only 78 in the (live) race heading into September. She did beat Kerber the other week and it obviously could have been easier, but not the worst draw in the world IMO.
Still on serve here, *3-4, but Baptiste has only dropped 4 points on her 4 service games so far, whereas Harriet has held to 30, 40 and 40 so perhaps knocking on the door, but a hold is a hold.
Ha, something like that. The tie probably sounds worse than it is, but then the H2H may play a role mentally. I'd be interested to see the odds - I'd say something like Jo 1/2, Kasatkina 6/4.
She is knocking on the door is Hailey. Harriet did so well to save a SP just before, but faces another one here (may have already conceded it). Another saved. 4-5 *40-40.
Big hold! 5-5*
