The National championships start on Monday (Tuesday for the under 16s) with the under 12s on clay in Bournemouth and the rest at Nottingham on hard court. Draws are as follows (very few who play ITF Junior events abroad are taking part, though Ranah Akua Stoiber is top seed in the under 14s) with live scores here
Two of the bronze medal winning under 12 team are taking part (Mingge Xu as top seed) but Hephzibah Oluwadare has withdrawn
Just eyeballing it, those seem to be (generally) pretty weak draws - it's been said before, but it really does make a nonsense of junior nationals to have SO many top juniors (and even middle-top juniors) not taking part.
As usual, the 12s and 14s are quite strong. The 16s and 18s are missing all of our top players.
Mingge Xu will be the heavy favourite in the 12s, but watch out for Hannah Klugman, who's won back to back grade 2 U12 tournaments, and is only 10 years old.
It's hard to look past Ranah Stoiber in the 14s, although Hannah Read and Talia Neilson Gatenby might have something to say about it.
I won't even try and predict a winner in the 16s and 18s.

There are various wildcards available for winners and runners up in u16 and u18 as an incentive to play and possibly the 16 and 18 girls lists are a bit stronger than last year. There are some who have done very well in brit tours such as Charlotte Howard, Grace Piper, Amelia Rajecki playing. I think anyone who gets help from the LTA in terms of funding, playing for GB, wildcards etc should play in these nationals or have that help withdrawn. I can understand the likes of Emma R not playing as she has clearly moved to a higher level, but the rest should. Surely winning the national should be a way for the lta favoured ones to show how good they are. Otherwise some of us have a suspicion that some are slightly avoiding the competition because in junior ITFs they very rarely play other British players. A notable exception is Holly S who won both U16 and 18 last year, so has got that achievement and understandably isn't playing this year.
Yes, I've heard it said by several that LTA coaches don't want their players to play against other GB players because it's rather embarrassing when your 'elite' player gets taken apart by some 'pleb'.
All pretty sad......
(and even if not true, the level of the nationals is all pretty sad, in and of itself)
"LTA has just announced that from next year the winners of the U18 junior national championships will get wild cards into Wimbledon qualifying. Winners of U16 will get Wimbledon junior wild cards."
Yes, Ace V had drawn my attention to this too. Great move in the right direction.

Good news about the overdue incentives for the top age ranges. It means that the under18/under16s will be held at the NTC over Easter next year, with the lower age groups combined at Nottingham in August. This article explains the changes
Jaquelyn has a game with a lot of potential, a bit of technical work to do, but a lot of commitment to the ball, and power through it. The sort of game that should evolve well.
