I think that the decision to play challies to get his eye and body back in would be good. As we saw a few years ago, he's not the fastest at coming back from injury, and this is a biggie.
Interesting the apparent afterthought from Andy and team that the best of 3 set US Open qualifying format might have been pretty good for him.
Indeed, and like challengers, opposition that he should be more than competitive with at this stage.
I guess, if he had come through qualifying, he would then have felt obligated to give the MD a go. Bit too soon maybe but he would have had a few more matches under his belt and could at least give it a go.
I don't know if it was for better or worse, but it was a strange one to come out just a bit too late, after saying he couldn't commit to a MD WC, and say they hadn't considered a qualifying WC.
