Liam gets there 6-4 in the third. Really well done and you could see how much this win meant to him. I only watched from 3-3 in the 3rd but both were playing some really high quality tennis. Well done!

I watched large chunks of the 1st two sets and I agree that the standard was excellent for the most part. Interesting to see Liam trying to get to the net as much as he did. He serve/volleyed on the first two points of the match and set the tone.
I think he knew this win would take him back into the top 250, which is important for Aus Open hopes. Likely to be Chung next which would be his biggest scalp in terms of stature if he could manage it.
I see a lot of Jay in Liam, can see them having the same type of career.
It's actually not Chung next - he lost easily to the Frenchman Maxime Janvier
Just watched the last 4 games. Some really entertaining tennis in there. However, Liam's worst shot of the match was when he tried to hit the ball into the crowd after winning and failed dismally. He might get some stick over that.

Not sure whats hap to Chung, he was beating top 10 players not long ago, Im assuming hes been injured to have fallen that far. Either way great chance for Liam to go deep now.
We were just saying on the women's section that with the US Open quals starting on Monday this year instead of the usual Tuesday, it looks like the finalists could be automatically removed from US Open quals. That obviously doesn't affect Liam, but Janvier and both potential semi final opponents are currently in quals, so there could maybe be an opportunity opening up for him here.

Yes, pretty seriously injured, can't remember the details though. This is only his 2nd tournament after winning Chengu Challenger (& the tournament before this one he ret/gave a w/o).
