Well let's hope for unlucky losers all round then. Good chance for both Liam and Lloyd to progress. But again, I question why in these new size challenger draws, you get 5 points for winning in R1, but only 3 points for winning in R2. That just isn't logical.

Yes, it's illogical and time the ATP answered you
It seems to be just kind of lazily inserting the old FQR points for a 32 man MD in as the 48 man R1 points and retaining the rest. But since the qualifying points were additional the FQR winner then had a more logical progression of 5, 13, 23 ... and the direct entrant 8,18 ...
Very tough for Liam and Lloyd after these two matches, a lot of ATP tour players who have slipped down the rankings will probably prevent a deep run. That said they are all playing US Open qualies or main draw and wont want to miss that big payday so at 75per cent maximum effort id imagine it has the potential to be a good week for them both to climb up the rankings further. Liam is only 2 wins away from being is Aus Open qualies contention.
Critical moments. Liam *3-1 up and 40-40. Gomez taking an MTO. Liam just saved a BP despite Gomez hitting one passing shot left handed on the run and then taking a full length dive in the opposite direction to get to the next ball. Looks like he grazed his elbow in the process and that is what has lead to the MTO.
