Week 33 - Challenger ($108,320+H) - Odlum Brown Van Open, Vancouver, Canada (hard)

Liam takes a 1st set breaker 8-6. Good job I had stopped watching.

Liam played some really positive tennis in that 2nd set. He was striking the ball very well off both flanks.

Yes, good depth and penetration. And seemed very confident in coming forward.

Why is it that in my mind, I always want to call this tournament the "Oda Mae Brown" Challenger. Films buffs will spot the reference.

I see Lloyds 2nd round opponent has pulled out. I assume any lucky loser has to be from qualifying and not a 1st round loser? Bit strange getting a LL that gets a bye into the 2nd round. If no replacement comes forward does Lloyd get both the money and the points or just the money for reaching the 3rd round.

Yeah, will be from qualifying. Happened to Brydan a couple of weeks ago, but he couldn't take advantage:

It's the same with WTA events, so always seems a bit of a farce when not only does a LL get a reprieve, they get a bye and then will effectively take over the seeding and get an unseeded player in the next round, in this case Lloyd, so whoever it is will be buzzing, although I guess it'll suit Lloyd as well instead of playing Troicki.

If there's no LL then I'm sure Lloyd would get the money and the points because he has already won a main draw match. Had there have been no byes and his 2nd round opponent withdrew then he would have just got a walkover.

Fairly certain Gomez will take it as he is in the doubles draw.

It'll be between Gomez and the Canadian Baadi, both were in the doubles.

And Baadi it is that will be playing the baddy against Lloyd. More or less a bye for him to play Berankis in the last 16.

Let's hope Liam can serve up a repeat of his FQR win (2 & 3) to progress to the last 16.
