Week 33 - ATP Masters 1000, Western & Southern Open, Cincinnati, OH, US (Hard)

Tumaini Carayol @tumcarayol

Murray says that he is not going to play singles at the US Open. Doubles and mixed doubles.

He said he wanted more time to see if its worth playing singles, but wildcards are announced today. Will probably play Winston-Salem.

Andy should have accepted a Wild Card and hoped for a Roger Federer/Kyle Edmundesq type lucky draw

Good to see him back, wise to miss US Open. A few high end challengers like Nishikori and Goffin did might be a good idea.

Yes probably good to miss the US Open although the imminent WC announcenent maybe ( helpfully? ) settled the decision for him.

Anyway, Jaggy, been watching any ITF doubles matches?

I guess the big question Jaggy, is would you have considered Andy drawing Kyle Edmund in R1 a Kyle Edmundesque lucky draw.  wink

I had forgotten about my comment about Andy not coming back to play singles ha, well remembered Indy, can I put a caveat or amendment to that and say that I think he will retire at the end of the year. Technically he isnt back full time as he isnt playing US Open. I really cant see him competing with the Top 3 and even the likes of Thiem, Tsitsipas and Zverev.

I would love to be proved wrong though. I also find the Murray Krygios bromance very nice, Nick was almost playing those points with him from his box.

Thiem has pulled out with illness, so a shame Andy didnt win yesterday as I think he could have taken care of Lucky Loser Delbonis who is essentially a challenger level player.

I've not been watching, but seems similar to the other day as Kyle drops the first set 2-6.

I thought things were improving:  Kyle served for the second set at 5-3...

0/4 wins here overall, not very encouraging ahead of US Open.

I agree. Except for Andy who I have little expectation of. But the rest of them...
