Well, I'm going to back Jo here on this. The US Open is next so she needs to step up this week. And since it often seems to be a head game with her, I hope she has got her head as well as her game adjusted to the US hard courts now.

I think Jo has entered the Bronx next week which is a new tournament replacing New Haven. Not sure why Jo entered the Bronx in preference to San Jose unless it was a travelling issue. i.e having to go from the West Coast to East Coast.

I think Jo will prefer consecutive weeks play leading into the US Open but at the same time not too many weeks in a row.

She certainly seems better when later in a successive run of tournaments than the first one after a few weeks gap and/or change of surface.

Hence why I wouldn't read that much into Toronto but now hope for a step up in Cincinnati and for her to get some matches under her belt.

It'll be another qualifier if Jo gets past Peterson, as Kudermetova has beaten Pera in just over an hour. She's come on really well this year.

Sure does. All about her serve as usual. Currently it isn't good enough.

1st set to Peterson very easily.
If she continues to serve as she has done this will be a 1st round exit for Jo who looks very poor, too many unforced errors and not enough decent serves. Starting to fear we may be witnessing another post Wimbledon melt down. Here's hoping for better in the next set.

Jo broke early in the 2nd and looked to have the momentum, but was then broken to love immediately and has lost the next 2 games.

1-3*

Just the one break, but a long way back. *1-4. Shame the way it has gone all of a sudden.

Typical Jo performance. Some decent stuff and a lot of rubbish. Peterson has stepped up just a little and Jo has fallen apart.

Not good. But err has played quite a lot of more than decent stuff this year to be race #11 and WR 15.

Now c'monnn, Jo !
