Two thoughts. Of course, on another level, nadal cant add to his total in paris and New York. He may keep 4000 but cant beat 4000. So I said hes gained but he hasnt. Djoko though can add in both. Ie do better than 2019 and improve his score. So scratch my earlier comment, djoko gains more than nadal from this.
And as wolf says, nadal has less incentive to go to New York now, focus on paris.

Of course Nadal is rather likely to win both the French Open 2019 and French Open 2020 and will then still only count the one 2,000 points, the same as Djokovic will have for just' his Wimbledon title from last year.
So it does kind of depend how the US and French Open Slams play out, and how you look at things.

First reaction is that the ATP are trying to ensure a level of fairness for the rest of 2020 for those players who arent unable (due to restrictions) or are reluctant to resume playing when the tour is due to recommence in August.
Obviously the practice will be more evident as things pan out but initially feels like a reasonable compromise.

Dont get me wrong, I agree and think it's reasonable in the circumstances. There are some anomalies, eg some players French open 2019 points will stay on until French open 2021, same wimbledon 2019. Aussie open 2020 will drop off in jan 2021. But these cant be helped really.
I'm not sure I like how theyve dealt with the Race however, I think that they could have used 2020 only and made it really interesting. Their logic is the race is the same as the year end rankings in November and thus the top 8 players. The equivalent would be to follow the rankings over the 22 month period and ditch the in year race, so that is what they're doing. Which I understand but think that theyve missed a chance for some new faces to appear.

Yes, good point. As it is everyone can keep their March to December 2019 points whether they play or not ( yes, rankingswise it gives no incentive for a 2019 tournament champion to go for it again, they can put their feet up, though there is still $$$$ and in particular a Slam title remains a Slam title, which surely matters more than ranking points, and if they don't defend or do but are not as motivated then hey more chance in 2020 for other players ).
And the count the better score method for repeat tournaments certainly seems fairer than being able to double count or add all new points plus dripfeed off the current frozen points at 1/52 of these points a week ( as had been brought up as a possibility and would still say leave Nadal with possibly 2020 French Open title points plus still retaining most of his 2019 French Open title points for some time to come ).
No doubt there will still seem some anomalies as it works itself out but at the moment it does look to me a quite well thought out method to take us to the end of 2020.
5 (-) Joe S ( race #1 with R Ram )
25 (-1) Jamie M ( race #6 with Neal )
27 (-1) Neal S ( race #6 with Jamie )

53 (-) Luke B ( race #25 with B McLachlan )

58 (-3) Jonny O ( race #14 with M Arevalo )
Liam is back into the top 200 (just, and not by Tara's reckoning but, yes, he is ) which is the only real good news in the rankings of our top players this week, although Cam has ticked up 5 places too.
Top 300 and main upward movers:
19/10/20
35 (-1) Dan Evans
47 (-2) Kyle
70 (+5) Cameron
116 (-1) Andy
189 (-2) Jay
200 (+3) Liam
285 (-4) James Ward
297 (-2) Jack Draper
Dan's up a couple of places but nothing else of note in the top end (although Liam just dips out of the top 200 again) or, indeed, in the lower echelons either
