I see that the ATP have started taking full points off this week in respect of 2019 points due to drop off at 16/08. That's started a week earlier than I thought had heen indicated. Hopefully the ATP won't again have to revise their rankings.

Yep, the ATP botched up again this week and have now revised their 16/08 rankings to give players back 50% of points due to drop off at 16/08. Gie us a job ATP and I'll try and keep you right!

Most points are unchanged. But there are some minor points and rankings changes and some other knock-on effect small ranking changes, plus a few a bit bigger, eg. Jan Choinski has now dropped just 14 points rather than 29 and so is WR 430 rather than WR 472.

You've got to laugh or you'd cry......

Leaving aside my HIGHLY important rankings summaries, I understand (I guess) that it's not too obvious what the calculation should be each week at the moment ....

BUT I can't understand why they don't check them internally and don't have anyone - like you, Indy ! - who could doublecheck them, do a dummy run, and basically has any blinkin idea what's going on...

It seems pretty obvious that some little grunt puts them up and then waits for players/geeks/experts/Joe Schmo to pick them up on their failings - i.e. to basically do their job for them.

By the way it's arguably a bit of a nonsense that players have still up to now been keeping 50% of 2019 points. BUT it would be a good idea for the ATP to try rather better to keep to the script and timings that they themselves have set out.

Some end of August graphs, to give a sense of what the last month has brought. 

So over August Cam continued to get closer to the #1 spot, but this was due more to Dan dropping points, than Cam gaining more.  James and Ryan spent most of the month chopping and changing between the GB #8 and #9 positions, while both Anton's and Aidan's recent successes meant they both spent some time at the #10 slot. As a result, Jan fell out of the top 10 for the first time this year and currently resides at #12.

I recently posted the following spiel in the Czech M25 thread. It related to discussion about Ryan P's points but since it indicates how we could see some general ATP ranking positions changing in the short to medium term I thought I'd add it here.

"Yes and with the ATP rankings there is generally quite a lot dropping off over the US Open 2 weeks.

3 weeks worth of 2019 points ( due to the US Open being a week later ) and 2 weeks of 2020 points ( not too active early on after tennis lockdown but still points coming off and for the US Open they were retaining the greater of 2019 and 2020 points ).

Net it does look as if generally unchanged points will see ranking position rises, particularly over these 2 weeks but also generally moving forward too, as the ATP steadily clears the decks of the old 2019 and 2020 points ( I wish the ruddy WTA would do the same! )

live-tennis rankings shows Ryan with the same points ( 156 ) as currently up 12 places to live 319. OER live rankings shows almost the same."
