Kicker to see Em dropping over 50 places with the system changing again.

Best draw she could have hoped for as the highest unseeded player I think. Hopefully Naomi can come through at least one match.

Annoying Shibahara is a very late withdrawal. If she'd pulled out on time Em would have been seeded.

Harriet draws Catherine Harrison, who won the 25k in Texas last week.

Without wanting to look past Catherine Harrison, if Harriet does go through, she'll probably have the worst draw she could in the 2R as Kristie Ahn will likely be waiting for her (assuming she beats her WC compatriot). Ahn has been in great form recently, qualifying for Wimbledon, making a W60 SF in her next event, and just last week came through qualifying in San Jose Premier, then beat Tomljanovic and Mertens (3 and 3) before going down to Vekic in QF, and as a result, she is now ranked above Harriet, but of course the seedings are based on the previous weeks rankings.

Naomi lost the first set 4-6, but is up *3-1 in the second, and is still the in play fave.

In doubles, Em and Junri play last week's champions Anderson/Ponchet.

Naomi and Glushko play second seeds Gleason/Stefani.

Never sure why Em and Naomi don't play together tbh. They haven't done so for years.

 Em may have been seeded if that was the case but she may still have lost so...it's not the hand that was dealt.
