I couldn't bear to watch either, walked away when Emily got back to 5-5. Andre's serve deserted her when she was serving for it, and once Emily went on the attack it became close again. It was still the poorest match of the seven .that I saw at least half a dozen games of.

I'll still continue to post odds, because I do think it generally offers a very good gauge, just like here for example, where Emily clearly justified being a 1/9 pre match favourite , but I will try and reign in sharing my individual betting experiences, in case it does put off members or lurkers with it being a bit of a taboo subject, however, I'll explain this situation. The biggest cash out I saw was £10.80 (from a £12 return) at 2-5 40-40*. In hindsight I should have cashed out, especially as I was wanting the opposite (extremely unlikely) outcome to happen, but I was waiting for Andre to have MP on serve and then cash out for something like £11.50 and then still hope for the 'impossible', but got greedy as that didn't happen, and the cash out was a bit lower than £10.80 on each of her MPs in the following games, as Emily had recovered a break, so I didn't bother on principle.
It was a bit strange watching the cash out drop in value, and Emily fighting back simultaneously, but chuffed she finally has that elusive W25 win. Well done Emily!
Hehe Emily App has won a W25 MD match, hooray! Yup, LL indeed for Emily, and I can quite imagine it was the poorest of the 8 matches today when you're carrying such a huge monkey, but Emily won't care, she's finally shrugged that monkey off

And like last week, we are guaranteed a QF as Sam plays Emily next.
I really want Emily to do well and justify turning pro, and she is still young, and was a decent junior, but after seeing TA's posts and obviously struggling today in a generous draw (even if showing great fight and spirit), it probably is just as well that it is GB vs GB next, and Sam can likely benefit from a decent draw, where Emily would probably struggle whoever she was against, but, if Emily can pull it off and it's her who makes the QF, then it will be absolutely fantastic for her, her ranking, and her confidence. Bit of a win win I think.
To put some more figures to Emily App's 6-3 3-6 7-6(2) win ...
She was 2-5* down in the final set, having in that game served 3 of the 7 DFs she served in all, and saved 4 MPs in all ( 2 at *3-5 and another 2 at 4-5* in a 14 point game ).
Having served a DF to go *15-30 down at *3-5 she served no more but instead 4 further aces in the remainder of the match to bring up a total of 12 aces, the final one bringing up MP.
Each had 4/11 BP conversions but Emily broke in every game she had BPs in, being persistent in the total 2/9 at 2-5* and 4-5* in the final set.
Yes, that's very encouraging for her. She may not have played brilliant tennis, but on the basis of that synopsis, she certainly held her nerve when she needed to! And that's a good ace count too.
Whatever else, she is a gutsy person. Hope her tennis improves now with a bit of confidence gained.
Great to see Emily end her 22-match (4 years this month) losing streak in 25K(/+H) singles matches at long last
Looking at how kind her draw was, I was confident she'd do it, especially when she was a set up, but I imagine the fightback from the Lithuanian had more to do with what must now be an understandable mental block on Emily's part than anything else. So please she managed to turn it around from 2-5 down in the 3rd and save all those match points too!
Interesting that her H2H against Sam is 1-0, having beaten her from a set down in Surbiton qualifying last year. Though I think Sam is playing better now, it's still one example of the fact that throughout her nightmare run in 25Ks, Emily was managing to beat the kind of players it's possible to meet in 25Ks when she met them in the latter stages of 15Ks and in the qualifying rounds at higher levels.

Sam looked very good today. She told me afterwards that she thought her opponent was going to be very good - she's still a teenager. Incidentally, Lissey also said that they asked for their mstches to be put on adjacent courts so their (joint) coach could watch them both.
I agree about the mental block with Emily.. Once she really went for her shots towarrds the end of the match she looked so much better - the earlier play seemed somewhst passive and tentative.

I don't mind others putting the odds, I often check the odds for all sorts of things, other sport and politics for example, as bookies are rarely wrong! Equally I thought I would share my opinion that I thought this match looked like the 50:50 that someone mentioned rather than the 1:9 from the bookies. Although Emily finally won the match the closeness of it, and particularly saving 4 mp, surely makes 50:50 seem about right. There is a certain amount of fortune involved in saving multiple mp after all, could be a net cord for instance. Apologies to anyone who put their 50p (or more) on the LL!

Just to be clear, I was joking with the justified 1/9 part and absolutely, the way it played out, you'd think it would be more of a 4/5 vs 10/11 or 4/6 vs 11/10 type of match, so your insight was certainly closer than the bookies, and Andre was in such a commanding position towards the end, that there was a chance you could guarantee profit if you wanted to.
I was just thinking more generally, e.g. my mother isn't into tennis, but she doesn't really like gambling, and I was just thinking others might be the same and it might spoil their experience in some way, which I wouldn't want.
