Week 32 - ITF (W25) - Chiswick, Great Britain - Hard

I'll have a closer look at the doubles draw this evening, but I see that Beth is partnering the unpronounceable Greek and is only second seed this week behind Naithka+ with Freya and Sam sseeded 3. Lissey partners Lee and they are 4th seeds.

Poor Holly, just saw she had a BP for *4-1 in the sceond set, which may have proven decisive. She led 2-0, 3-1, 5-3 and 6-5* in the MTB, but lost the last 5 points so the Swiss girl advances. Assuming Ali comes through her Q1, hopefully she can take inspiration from that, but looking at their results this year, I might have fancied Holly's chances more.

Abby Amos, who's just beaten the girl ranked about ITF 550, did 4 years at James Madison Uni and has just now graduated but has signed up for her Masters at Arizona, playing for the Wildcats.

There's a nice article about her here:

FQRs:

Holly vs Nell
5) Rush1ti cry vs Ali
6) Garland vs Abigail A
7) Ekani vs 12) Tanysha
8) Ola vs Morgan

The rest
1) Noel vs Fourouclas
2) Da Silva Fick vs 10) Orange
3) Zheng vs The Lithuanian girl who often plays the British tour (15)

2 guaranteed. Probably do well to get any more with Rush1ti eventually pulling through against Holly, but it would be great if one of the others could join the 2 guaranteed. Mind, some might prefer Garland to go through, so that could technically count as a half entrant, certainly more general interest in the main draw than say an Ekani.

Edit - Ali did coe through, so have amended the line up.

Main draw is also out. Looks generally decent again from the quick check I did. Gabi was the mystery withdrawal that I was referring to yesterday on the 'Chiswick entry list' thread. Angelica did indeed get the last MDWC and plays the veteran Arn in R1.

it's funny how these things work - where are you getting the MD from Ace, is it the ITF site, since if it is, I can't see it there yet?

Some interesting matches in the main draw, even before the qualifiers are placed.

It really is a weird site Michael, and seems to update for some quicker than others, but yeah, just the usual ITF site.

Michael, the draws don't seem to appear for everyone at the same time for some reason - you just have to keep refreshing the page until it shows. Must be a caching issue on some computers.

It's been a miserable few months for Gabi and shows no signs of improving after losing R1 last week, and not being involved here. Hope whatever it is isn't bad and she can plan her next batch of events.

It's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and things may have worked out different had Lily been the Q1 seed instead of just sneaking in, and affected the Q draw, but with no Brit benefiting (unless the LTA consider Lily more important than a random overseas player), it might have worked out better had Gabi withdrawn either after the Q draw came out, or after the main draw (even if she had no intention of playing) and then we could have maybe benfited from a LL spot. Might have been different with Lily in quals as I say, but we could well end up with 5 FQR losers, so a 5/8 chance of one of them getting the LL spot.

Something like that happened earlier in the season with Lisicki in Shrewsbury. She said she pulled out a lot earlier, but she was still in the draw, so a LL place became available, and Laura also benefited from a seperate LL situation as well.

So the FQR draw involving Brits is as follows (rankings are now mostly correct for this week):

FQR: Holly HUTCHINSON (GBR) UNR vs Nell MILLER (GBR) [WC] UNR
FQR: Ali COLLINS (GBR) [q13] 1067 vs Arlinda RUSH1TI (SUI) [q5] 829
FQR: Abigail AMOS (GBR) [WC] UNR vs Joanna GARLAND (TPE) [q6] 717
FQR: Tanysha DISSANAYAKE (GBR) [q12] 1145 vs Irys EKANI (FRA) [q7] 911
FQR: Aleksandra PITAK (GBR) [q8] 958 vs Morgan CROSS (GBR) UNR

Yes, very weird. I have the doubles draw, but still not the singles confuse

And it's late here in SE Asia, so I'll leave the singles draw to you Peter, if you have time.

Odds-wise:

Holly 1/6, Nell 7/2
Ola 4/7, Morgan 5/4
Ali 5/6, Rush1ti 5/6 - possibly influenced by the latters battle with Holly S, but that's quite encouraging
Abigail 9/1, Garland 1/33 - not so much for Abigail
Tanysha 9/4, Ekani 1/3 - underdog, but not a massive outsider.

Would be great if 1 of the other 3 (particularly Ali or Tanysha) could join the 2 guaranteed.
