Sam raced off to a 4-0 lead, before Emily Ap really got going, but has taken the first set 6-2.
Elsewhere, Lily was down 5-0 before fighting back, but has just lost the set 6-3
Zheng is giving Ozgen a battle 4-4 - Freya is the next match on that court.
Sam has now finished a straightforward 6-2 6-0 victory in 64 mins. Last year Sam reached the SF as a qualifier however, which means she earned 19 pts then(18+1), and so far this week she's earned 9 pts, so she is still -10 pts for the rankings week after next. Freya or Ankita Raina [2] for her next.
After her brief success on Tuesday, Emily is brought down to earth by Sam 6-2 6-0. Serving stats are poor, and to be honest from what I saw on Tuesday of both players, the result doesn't really surprise me.
The other two matches I mentioned above are now both tight and both seeds have dropped a set.

There's no getting round it: to be WTA 549 and to extremely nearly lose against an unranked, junior Lucky Loser. And then to get beaten 2 & 0 against Sam ....... you want to congratulate her on finally breaking her 25k duck, but there's really not a lot to be optimistic about.
This is a girl who got straight As (or A*s, can't remember) in her GCSEs - a lot of us said at the time, no idea why she ended up turning down that excellent US college place....
Wow, good start. I can't see what the game scores are, e.g. Kerkhove could currently have 3 BPs at *0-40 or something, but very encouraging, and would be great if she could at least take that first set. If any of them we're going to threaten an upset, I thought Freya might have been more likely. Speaking of which, Zheng and Ozgen are really making her wait, still just 2-2 in the decider after 2 hr 37 mins, although another match where you can't see individual game points scores.
I see Lissey is 5-4 now, so not sure if she's just been broken, or about to serve for the set.

Well that professional advice she received from Annabel Croft a couple of years ago hasn't helped as yet.
Never even thought to click into it, Lissey was 0-4 in the 2nd, but has just recovered one of the breaks back.
Pemra eventually came through that match with the junior after 3 hrs 18 mins, so Freya should be on soon. Zheng is supposed to team up with Garland later to take on I think Lissey +, so it will be interesting to see what happens there, well fairly interesting anyway.

I don't know what's happened to Naiktha, but she seems to have lost her capacity to win matches since becoming British again... Not sure what happened to her mojo but hope she refinds it, she's gotta do better than this.
Back in 2011 when Naiktha was in Australia Gary Stickler some time coach of Pat Rafter said she could become a top 10 player. It doesn't exactly look like it now. I dare say Australia would not have let her go if they thought she had been top 10 material. Of course it's a long shot but she could be under the radar for years then do a Johanna Konta.
