Week 32 - ITF (W25) - Chiswick, Great Britain - Hard

It's morning here in SE Asia. I will post the q draw without too much detail, in the 4 player sections. And since its now 5th August, I'm going to dispense quickly with the 'old' ITF rankings (though they are still valid, and list where I know them likely new rankings for this week (they are not formally out yet). They are indicative only, especially for the non-GB players. With 8 quadrants, Kasia Pitak as q9 is unlucky to be in the same quadrant as the q1 seed. A surprise appearance too by Suzy Larkin at the bottom of the draw though Ola Pitak might not be too pleased to see her.

QR1: Iman GARSHONG (GBR) UNR vs Mallaurie NOEL (FRA) [q1] 522

QR1: Katarzyna PITAK (GBR) [q9] 1058 vs Natasha FOUROUCLAS (RSA) UNR

QR1: Indianna SPINK (GBR) UNR vs Gabriella DA SILVA FICK (AUS) [q2] 576

QR1: Kimberly Alinafe MPUKUSA (GBR) UNR vs Margaux ORANGE [q10] 1117

QR1: Martina PALADINI JENNINGS (GBR) UNR vs Qinwen ZHENG (CHN) [q3] 726

QR1: Amelia BISSETT(GBR) [WC] UNR Born 2003 vs Andre LUKOSIUTE (LTU) [q15] UNR

QR1: Holly HUTCHINSON (GBR) UNR vs Pei-Chi LEE (TPE) [q4] 839

QR1: Nell MILLER (GBR) [WC] UNR vs Anamarija SPOLJARIC (CRO] [ UNR) [q16]

QR1: Holly STAFF (GBR) UNR vs Arlinda RUSH1TI (SUI) [q5] 829

QR1: Ali COLLINS (GBR) [q13] 1070 vs Veronika HUGHES (GBR) [WC] UNR

QR1: Jizel MATOS SEQUEIRA FERNANDES (GBR) UNR vs Joanna GARLAND (TPE) [q6] 717

QR1: Abigail AMOS (GBR) [WC] UNR vs Giorgie JONES (AUS) [q11] 1174

QR1: Tanysha DISSANAYAKE (GBR) [q12] 1146 vs Angelina GRAOVAC (AUS) UNR

MD Brits here would appear to be Bains, Murray, Taylor, Barnett, Appleton, Gillan, Grey, Christie (WC), Hill (WC), Arbuthnott (WC).
If Beth sneaked into the MD, then Angelica Blake may have a WC. She's on the entry list, but well down the alts. However after her R32 win last week, it would be a surprise not to see her playing here this week.

Emma Raducanu did not appear at either Woking or Chiswick. Does anybody know what has happened to her?

M Noel's presence in the Q draw as top seed makes me think Beth has a MDWC, or she's not playing (hopefully the former). Sasha Hill was in the Q list last week right up until the end, but ended up not playing at all, so that may happen here as well, making way for Angelica, because as Michael says, it would be a bit of a surprise if she didn't feature after last week.

Yes, something we're all wondering a bit. She was entered in both initially then withdrew 22 July.

Start now put back to 11:45. They are using 8 courts with 6 matches scheduled on each. Hope the weather brightens up so they can get through all the qualies today.

Looks like they've moved matches to the indoor courts - 6 matches under way

Yes, good idea. Be really tricky if they ran late on day one....

Great starts for Holly Hutchinson and Nell Miller (I'm a fan of Nell)

Young Millie Bissett is holding her own too.

More hard going for Indy and Martina PJ

Nell and Holly both up a set and a break
Indy and Martina (and Kimberley) down a set against seeds
Mille at 4-4

Holly went from *4-1 double break to 4-4*, but has just broken again and will try and serve for the match. Nell also serving for the match, *5-3. Pretty sure the winners play each other in the FQR...

Nell won 6-1 6-3, great win for her, but Holly was broken again, so that guaranteed qualifier is on hold for a bit.

Maybe a few issues after hardly playing at any level for a while, as her exams came first, and then coming back just before Wimbledon. And she has had tendonitis issues in at least the recent past.

Hopefully nothing major but if it is minor physical issues better safe than sorry. No need to push anything.

Well done, Nell.

Although Holly's opponent looks far stronger on paper, not quite sure how Nell's was seeded, to be honest.

Allez, Holly !

Kimberley lost 1 & 2. As did Martina.

Indy lost 2 & 4

Millie lost 4 & 2

Get in Holly! Whatever happens in the remaining Q matches involving Brits, you could say it's been a success with that all GB unseeded FQR - good luck to both.

Holly makes it over the line 7-5, and will indeed play Nell in the FQR.
Just looked down the entry list, and Spoljaric just about has a WTA ranking, but no recent record to speak of.

 Yes, that's a super result.

And Lee is WTA 725, ITF 290, which are very decent rankings.

Great to see the US college girls do well too smile
