Robin Anderson has just won, so that's the 2nd, 3rd and 4th seeds all through to the semi's, with one more place up for grabs. Katie should be on in the next 10 mins or so.
Interim summary .....
Katie lost the first four games, then it went with serve 2-6

Final set .............
Kim [Q] and Han [4], both Kor, play out a surreal semi-final at half pace, with umpteen service breaks, and the seeded player Han retiring/conceding with no obvious injury, and [on reflection hardly surprising] the sturdily built qualifier Kim, who ran about like an express train for 3 sets against our valiant Katie Swan (and in doing so hardly missing a return), is through to the final.
Now, if I was a betting man, which I'm not, I might have been able to make a few bob on such events as these.
I didn't see any of this match, but was keeping an eye on this result just to see how she backed up that win.
I mean she is ranked 492, and while fairly young, not ridiculously young (like a 17/18 year old just starting out with obvious big potential), and she lost in quals her last 2 events, hasn't really done anything of note this year, and the last time she played Han just 2 months ago, she literally only won 2 games, so I wasn't sure if it was just a one off performance last night. But guess we can't gauge too much from the above observation.
The commentator did say last night that she and Han often travel together. However, with the retirement, you couldn't really profit from this encounter as it would have been a void bet (unless you cahed out pre retirement). However, she was a massive 7/1 to beat Katie yesterday, so you could have profited there.
Cindy Shmerler (who knows a thing or two about tennis) was the commentator for the quarterfinal between Swan and Kim, and said during that match it was by far and away the best quality tennis played in the whole tournament, in fact she said it was as good as WTA level tennis. The number of times that Katie thought she had hit a winner, for the ball to still come back, well it seemed unreal. Furthermore the win was achieved with Kim having only an average first serve.
I saw the latter part of the match. I thought Katie played very well, and Kim played out of her skin - definitely not to her ranking. But you'd think that was a one-off performance, not to be repeated in the next match
