Week 31 - ITF (W15) Dublin, Ireland Carpet

Pleased for Tanysha and, in particular, Holly Staff (because she lost her singles), that they got a comeback win in the doubles. Very tight.....

I honestly don't think it was a disaster for Chloe, HarryGem - I've no idea what her agenda is but she must know what her level is, that she is truly UNR and therefore the result was no surprise - even the bookies had it right.

Tanysha has a nice, fluid, aggressive game, good technique, but not one that makes you stop in your tracks and think 'hey, ho, now there's a star in the making'. She's definitely one of our better ones but if she's going to college, that'll be a good idea.

Without knowing how Chloe got the 3 WCs that gave her her points and WTA ranking and subsequent seedings I don't criticise her for taking them. But as CD indicates her result is no surprise so no disaster.

While getting her into tournaments and good draws, it must be a burden in some ways to carry such a ranking and seedings that are purely down to the daft WTA ranking system with points for 25K+ R1 exits even as a WC.

All the best to her in the future to progress and find her true place.

A win in the doubles for Kimberley+ against Anoushka+.

And what seems almost 100% certain to be a win for Soumeya and partner

Thanks CD. My knowledge of these players isn't as good as sketchy!

It's still not her true place, but next week she is going to fall 8 places in the GB rankings and about 380 places in the WTA rankings, with the points mergers, so her anomalously earned points will not quite so blatantly stick out, and she won't be getting these kind of seedings any longer.

Just to catch up on our Irish brethren, or sisterhood, or shirt-tail cousins...

Brilliant to see the run of young Anna Bowtell (Amy's younger sister) - today she took out the third seed 6-2 6-1 !

And Georgia Drummy, a junior last year, also cruised into the semis.

Lovely for the Irish to have two girls in the semis.

They've also got three players in the doubles semis - although if they could please step aside and leave a place for Soumeya, that'd be nice.....

Was just coming on to mention this CD having just seen the semi final line up. I've never seen Drummy play, just heard that she's pretty good (which is why I was quite surprised ELG beat her recently), so if she gets to the final on Sunday, then I may look to watch a bit, if there is the same brilliant online coverage that we got for Emily App vs Sasha last year.

Bowtell does have the top seed next, but it would be cool for the tournament, the fans and Irish tennis if they could meet in the final.

If it's the other 2 then I won't bother.

Drummy did make the final, but Bowtell ended up losing 7-6 in third to the top seed.

Edit - final will be available to watch here tomorrow - https://tg4.ie/en. It follows Ryan P's final from 3.30pm
