Jubby served for the 2nd set twice and even had two set points on the Broom serve but hasn't managed to make good on any of his chances.

Broom has a similar build to Stan the Man I'd say. Easy power and similar service motion. Nice player.

Also, just watching the level of someone like Mark W makes it really clear how cutthroat tennis is as a sport.
How can someone be able to play at that level and not break the top 500 is crazy.
I just caught the end of his game v Jack D and a little bit of his match v Anton yday and the level of hitting during rallies was really really high.

Yes, I know what you mean about the cutthroat depth of men's tennis.

Mark is indeed showing on OER as 'just' live WR 549 on 46 points for 05/08. His 3 points for the QF here should take him up to about WR 530 on 12/08.

At least he and so many other disenfranchised players are back in the ATP rankings from Monday and we can much easier follow their rankings prgress as against trying to decipher the relevance of their ITF ranking. This I think will add to the interest in following these players generally playing exclusively or mainly below chalkenger level

Yes, I've always found Mark W very easy on the eye in terms of his tennis game, one of my favourite 'slightly lower down the list' players.

Charles pushed Paul all the way indeed. Paul broke for *5-4 but it was then not until his 6th MP in a 20 point game that he finally crossed the line.

I see in the new ATP points tables on the ITF site, M15 and M25 doubles quarter finalists are shown as earning the same points as singles quarter finalists.

With the old futures you needed to reach doubles SFs to earn any ATP ranking points.

Great win by 'Big Ed' and Julius over the third seeds, as reported above by SC.

With Ali and Ewan having put out the French second seeds yesterday, we're now guaranteed at least one GB player in the men's doubles final from the bottom half of the draw

Hope Jack Draper/Paul Jubb is OK - whichever was the reason for the w/o (both had three set singles matches today, although Paul's was a bit longer and tighter)
