Week 31 - ITF (W25) Woking, Great Britain Hard

Good effort from Angelica in the second set, but to no avail as she loses 1 & 4
SHe was 2-0, then 2-4 and 4-4.

Freya and Beth started - Freya leads *2-0

Five games in a row for Beth as she takes the first set 6-4

Freya is at that dangerous score of 4-1* again in the second set.

Freya survives that one and takes the set 6-2.

Long way back for Freya in the decider, 2-5*, or *5-2, whichever way you're looking at it.

Beth saves three break points and takes it on her first match point

So from 29 on Monday (including 3 seeds in the main draw), Beth is the last one standing heading into the QFs, and plays the top seed next. I wish Beth well and hope she can go further, but it's pretty much been a W25 to forgot. Hope next week is better, but we can't exactly blame the draw as it was very fair overall.

Don't forget that there 8 Brits left in the doubles quarter finals, although only one guaranteed to progress.

But hopefully it will be five, and and at least two in the final

I'll try not to forget TA wink

Na, good luck to them all, doesn't mean a great deal to me, but if it can help with their confidence, enthusiasm and somewhat to their bank balance, then it can't be bad.

Yes, that sums up my feelings completely - good luck to them all, and enjoy - but, whatever happens, it can't hide the fact that the singles has been pretty horrific (Go, Beth !!! Win the thing !!!)

Yeah, I do wish Beth well too and while unlikely, I would love to see her go on to win it, and while a lot of our brighter prospects weren't here for a variety of reasons, there were some potentially interesting questions coming into this week:

Could we get a surprise qualifier outside of the one guaranteed?
Could Gabi get a bit momentum going to give her a platform to push on?
Could one of our 3 seeds actually win the whole thing (couldn't even manage one win between them, let alone 5)?
After Freya beat Naiktha, could she use this to push on to try and get back on track to where she has been?
How would Angelica do in her first proper tournament as a GB player?
Could young Emily finally get that elusive win at W25 level?
Could any of the other younger players / college girls make a bit of an impact?

Bar Angelica, the rest of the questions have been an emphatic 'no'.

Meh.

So the quarter final line up is:

1) Kerkhove vs Beth
3) Raina vs 6) Georges
Heisen vs Dodin
Cascino vs 2) Ozgen

4 of the 5 other seeds managed to uphold their ranking and reach their prospective quarter final. Cascino won the battle of Gabi and Emily App's conquerors, and good to see Dodin continue her decent recent form after an awful 18 months or so of injury - she's still just 22, but was in the top 50 just over 2 years ago - if Beth doesn't, then I'd like to see her take the title.

Doubles

Beth and Eden get a W/O into the semi-final. Two other matches on court now, with the Pitak's to follow.

(Sorry Ace, I've been following some of these girls progress in doubles for a few years, so always keeping an eye on the scores)

No need to apologise TA, you're certainly not alone on this forum in following the doubles, and especially in weeks like this, the interest will come in handy, ha.

The top three seeded pairs are through to the semis and it looks as though the fourth seeds will join them as they are a set up against the Pitak sisters
