Week 31 - ITF (W25) Woking, Great Britain Hard

I believe Emily Arb gets her ranking back when her point for this week goes back on - then loses it when her point from Chiswick last year drops off in a couple of weeks time (unless she can get another WC there !)

Just to mention that half-Brit, Joanna Garland, also lost. In two.

So it's c'mon, Beth!!! Something needs to be salvaged.....

Or even qualifies and earns a point ...

Yes, just noticed that earlier. I think that will now be 34 WTA ranked players on Monday, for a week anyway.

Finally - something to smile about

Well done Beth.

Beth wins the last 6 games to take the match 1-6 7-6(1) 6-3, and with it, we now do have a guaranteed quarter finalist. Suddenly it's looking a little bit better. Sam to come, and Alice, so hopefully a win there and then 4 through will be reasonably respectable, or certainly better than it was shaping when she lost that first set.

Great that she's managed to come back and win against a qualifier ranked over 100 places lower than her in a home tournament too... We are clutching at straws at the moment no

What are people's thoughts re the Freya match? She's 6-1 *5-3 up, so not too far from being over the line, although not certain given previous results this year. If she sees it out, are you seeing it as encouraging for Freya, 3 wide wins in a row and something to build on, or that Naiktha has lost to someone currently 350 places below her, and at the moment looks as though she has done extremely well to get near circa 230? Freya is obviously a better player than 580 and has been inside the top 300 herself, but (although she's had personal issues) hasn't really been playing well for a long time.

Edit - Freya has just had 2 MPs come and go, so with that match with the French women with the long name, Arcongioli or something, in mind, I really hope she does see it out now. But BP for Naiktha...

And back on serve...5-4*

Well, can't read too much into one match, especially without knowing if it's mainly to do with Freya playing pretty well, Naiktha relatively poorly or a bit of both.

Clearly hope it's the first and there have been signs of Freya picking up a bit including decent scores in tough looking grass season matches. So will be watching her progress with interest in the coming weeks and months.

And yes, that was even before the whole match had been played out.

Needs must Michael biggrin no

Looking back, it is mainly the Gabi result that sticks out the most negatively for me. While I did #daretodream, Emily App seems destined to never win at this level, no matter who she plays, Ali and Holly were up against it. I guess Emily Arb was disappointing too, especially the scoreline, losing the first 9 games.

Not directly related (for now) but a bit of a shame to see Garland go out as well (as CD mentioned), although again against someone much higher ranked so not a surprise at all. I see that Chinese jr Zheng who I mentioned earlier (and beat Garland at RG jr en route to the SFs) won and actually plays Raina next, so that will be a good yardstick to compare the respective jr's results.

Would have helped if there was a stream as well. Naiktha will probably come back now and win it all and make me desperately surge for that edit button...

Just my view but I am a far bigger fan of Freya than Naithka.

I've never really rated Naithka, and mentioned it on here ages back, when she played for Australia and was at Surbiton. And what I've seen this year hasn't changed my mind. Rather confirmed it.

That said, I would never put money on Freya in a tight situation, bless her......

But I'm rooting for her

Yay !!!!

As Indy says, there's been signs that personal things have got a more little sorted out for Freya and the play, and scorelines, have improved in line. Even though not actually big results, as such.

But this is great for her

add: yep, Ace, me of little faith no
