Week 31 - ITF (W25) Woking, Great Britain Hard

Scoreboards show interrupted - I assume that it is a rain break after just 10 minutes

I'm sure Alicia was 2-1 up coming into today (she was certainly 2-0 up at one stage), but has just dropped the first set 2-6.

Angelica 5-2* up in the second set after Mandy won the first. I did actually put a couple of £ on Angelica at 8/1 yesterday morning and she did go up to 16/1 after that first set. She's not won yet, nothing like it, she's not even won a set at this time, but I did think that was too big (I was expecting like 3/1 or 7/2 max) - she's currently 4/1 so I can cash out for £2.58 biggrin, but I wouldn't have even expected Alice G to be 8/1 to beat Mandy, and Angelica double bageled her the other week.

I saw Betfred had her at 10/1 on one of those wincomparitor sites, but when I went on to their website I couldn't find any odds for Woking so had to settle for 365's 8s.

Ali C put up a good fight in the 2nd set against Georges, but lost on a tie break, and thus the match. Emily Arb not so much, she's just lost the first set 0-6.

Angelica 3-6 6-3, so into a decider. The cash out has gone up to £3, but I'll just let it ride.

Angelica backs up her 2nd break and gets the first hold of the decider, 3-1*

It sounds like a right battle between Angelica and Mandy, 14 of the 23 games have gone to deuce. They're past the 2 and a half hour mark, and there could still be life in it yet, Angelica 4-2* (Mandy just got one of the breaks back).

Angelica wins 3-6 6-3 6-2 - great win for her, and a nice £18 return for me. My heart sank a bit at *5-2 after Angelica had broken to love and it came up 'suspended' - I was convinced there was going to be a retirement. I know some don't like betting and it can lead to problems in the game, but that would have been a right kick in the... if she retired and the bet was void at that stage - I've seen people like Yastremska retire on MP.

Doesn't get any easier for Angelica, in fact it gets tougher, as she has the top seed Kerkhove, but Angelica has proven that she can compete at a decent level and at 18, GB could have something good on their hands. I'd 100% give her a MDWC for Chiswick too next week.

Anyone watching this match? I'd be really interested to hear their comments on it and the respective performances of both players. It's a rare outing for both players in the UK at this point in time!

I'm away on a work trip in Asia at the moment, so not much time to either watch or comment on here this week and next...

Yes, I hate the 'retirement' rule - been stung on that too.

Bravo - to you and to Angelica

Well done Angelica. Only bright point of the day so far with everyone else losing.

Sorry, I'm not so interested in your £18 Ace, but I would like to know more about the match please! wink

It's certainly looking a pretty ropey day, for the women.

We have five losses out of five, to foreign players. And all in two sets.

Obviously, the rankings would predict that for some, it's true.

But Emily App and Emily Arb played qualifiers (and 'true' qualifiers at that).

And Alicia played someone lower ranked.

WOuld be nice if this afternoon turned things around a bit - it's a bit bleak otherwise.....
