Week 31 - ITF (W25) Woking, Great Britain Hard

Are the FQR matches today as well? If so, then getting off the court in under an hour, whilst potential opponents are still very early in their second set, will be a boost as well.

Very early days, but Worthy Goldman is 3-0* up on Adler and had put 12 straight points together at one stage. She's one of the players I wasn't familiar with and was 11/1 pre match (but another where's there's less data for them to gauge). Adler could just be figuring her out and end up winning comfortably, but an encouraging start.

 Super. Well done, Grace.

For anyone, like me, who barely knows the girl, born 2002, here's an article from 6 months ago in the Somerset Gazette:

It's more about one event, than her in general, but gives a flavour

If Freya concedes more than four games to Scarlett she's got serious problems.

Well, you were even more right than me on this one, the addict smile

There's a big disparity in levels but, all the same, to concede only one game must feel good for Freya.

Scarlett is still only 17, despite being probably the tallest girl in the tournament. But she doesn't get past qualifying on the British Tour, so this was always going to be an enormous mismatch I'm afraid.

Yes, I've seen Scarlett play several times, including this summer at Surbiton. She seems a very nice girl but doesn't have a lot of mobility in her tennis. Or even penetration, which there should be given her height (and she has some technical problems in her shot mechanics which are going to stop it getting better unless she changes).

So yes, like you, the result was never in question. But the score was encouraging for Freya - I could well have expected it to be a little closer, just in score.

Yes, great win for Grace, won the last 5 games after being broken in the 2nd to go down 1-3.

Looks like that impressive start is going to be as good as it gets for Worthy. She had chances to win further games, but Lou has taken control.

Indy Spink will be playing Alice Tubello (FRA)

Alice has been playing on clay for the last 6 months (was in Germany last week).

She's born 2001, so still a junior, like Indy - she won the French national championships (U18) last year but has been playing mainly adults since then.

Not a bad match-up for Indy, though.....

(I've never been much of a fan of Indy's - rather over-trumpeted by the LTA, I reckon - but she seemed on slightly better form in June and it was certainly nice to see her back, looking fit and well)

The 'clay' theory seems to be turning to mud ......

Alice T is leading 6-0 2-0..... :(

On the other hand Jisel Matos Sequeira Fernandes has started well 3-1

Like Worthy might not be able to keep it up but has tried.

Katie Morris is putting up a very good effort against a top junior who made the RG SF a couple of months ago.

Ultimately not enough as she lost 2 and 4, but she did win 3/4 break points and 44/104 points, so a decent showing.

Camille almost home against Tiff. 5-3* in the 2nd set TB. Not sure if that says more about one than the other though.

CVA wins 6-3 7-6(6).

Looks like the 3 remaining matches with British interest are going as expected. No match thus far has gone into a MTB, even the 2 matches where the 2 unseeded players prevailed. The British sounding Italian Harriet Hamilton is yet to start her Q1 match. Actually, just as I type that, Ola has just been broken, so her 2nd set is back on serve, and Paladini-Jennings (who I've not heard of) has just broken that Lee (who took a set off Maia the other week), so there could be life in those 2 matches.

Main draw should be out within the hour as most of the draws for the central Europe events are out now.

Main draw out, and largely positive. All 12 in as expected, Sasha was one of the 5 potential MDWCs no to be involved (Ali C is in). Naiktha, Gabi and Sam are seeds. 5 are vs Qs, and 1 all GB clash (Mandy vs Angelica).
