Who will be GB Number after the US Open? During Wimbledon I said to a friend that Evo would be British number 1 by the end of the US open. Mainly because he was rubbishing him. Typically seasonal tennis fan who watches during Wimbledon. Anyway I thought Id have a look at how far Dan was off being GB number 1 by the end of the US Open.
Not including anything earned this current week.
Kyle 1280
Cam 950
Dan 942
Kyle points to come off
Canada Masters 10
Cincinnati masters 45
Winston-Salem 45
Us Open 10
Total 110
Cam points to come off
Atlanta 90
Low cabos 90
Us Open 45
Total 225
Dan points to come off
Binghamton 7
Vancouver 7
Mallorca 95
Total 109
So current points guaranteed by 9/9( not including non countables)
Kyle 1170
Dan 833
Cam 725
So for Kyle to be replaced as British number one by the end of the Us Open. Dan would need to pick up 337 more points than Kyle while Cam 445. Will be tough for either to do it but if either can my money would be on Dan.
However after that Dan only has 8 points to defend the rest of the year. So if doesnt happen by then, Dan will have a great chance of being British number by year end.

Dan will be number 1 by the end of the year. Cam will be 2nd but only just.
Dan has potential to be top 20, Cam probably a 30-40 ceiling.
Dan is a better player than Kyle and Cam, despite what a few on here have been pretending. Kyle circa 25-35 is probably his true ranking, the Aus Open draw opening up for him inflating the ranking last year.
Dan will indeed probably be GB #1 by year end, the points Kyle has to drop particularly in October and the related race points ( ie without these counting for Kyle ) make clear this likelihood, quite apart from form of late. Much tougher by after the US Open and, re the thread opener, I would take Kyle to still be GB #1 then. Though Dan quite rightly has much more interest in his world ranking. GB #2 and WR 30 or better would no doubt mean rather more to him than GB #1 and WR 40.
Who is actually the "better" between Dan and Kyle is as unclear as is often the case with such comparisons. To me Dan has been playing the best tennis from these two plus Cam for some time. I still though think the best of Kyle, while not as attractive on the eye to me, is more likely to at least be top 20, if not top 10 in time, that he has the biggest potential upside, to go highest. But he really needs to asap refind much better form through sustained physical ( putting the knee issue behind him ) and perhaps mental, improvements, plus further develop the weaker aspects of his game.
Very impressed though with Dan, and being as well regarded as he appears to be by such as Federer ( with the time they have spent together ) must be pretty motivating.

From my perspective, the simple fact that we are having a conversation about "who is the best GB player", is great news. For so long, Andy has been so far out in front, that conversation would have been pointless.
Who is the "best" is always a debate and I enjoy the differing opinions. With regard to the Dan v Kyle comparison, Dan has certainly had the best results this year and shown the most consistency, but Kyle does have a 3-0 record in their H2H, including a win this year on grass which many would consider Kyle's weakest surface and Dan's strongest.
All 3 players have their strengths and weaknesses. Dan is the most instinctive player and the best mover of the three. Cam when playing well is rock solid and consistent. Kyle has the biggest weapons. On any given day, it's about match-ups and any one of them is capable of beating any other.
One thing I do disagree with Jaggy on is his assertion that it is "nice and simple". If that were the case, life would be boring and we wouldn't need to have these discussions, would we.
