QF: SWAN, Katie (GBR) 256 vs LI, Ann (USA) [3] 172 (CH:167 May 19) 19yrs (JCH:12 Jan 18)
At 30-30 in that game, Gail connected really sweetly (quite unexpectedly so) with two returns - nothing really for Katie to do, she didn't choke, it wasn't really a blip as such.
Ann Li was really pretty unimpressive at the the Wimbly qualis, although that may be connected with grass, and maybe she's happier on home soil. But it was very difficult to find much to rate.

Home comforts may help, but ironically, grass is her self proclaimed favourite surface.

I think she's having a laugh......
She made the final of the W100 in Florida on clay and got knocked out in the first MD round of every grass court event she played !

Na, it would have stemmed from making the Wimbledon juniors final in 2017 and getting that Court One experience in her losing effort to compatriot Liu.
She did have some very tough draws in the lead up to Wimbledon to be fair, eventual Champ Riske at Surbiton, eventual champ and top seed Linette at Manchester, potentially roid popping Haddad Maia at Ilkley - who went on to beat Rybarikova in the next round (and won Ilkley dubs), and obviously Muguruza via quals at Wimbledon. The result you initially referenced at Wimbledon was the most disappointing, but she does like the grass.
Edit - she was inactive last year from June 4th until 23rd July (returning at Ashland) and that insta post was during that inactivity.

Haha, I stumbled on that pic at the very start of the grass season and do generally like it when players like grass/Wimbledon, so it stood out, and I remember someone on TF cursing her draws.
It'll be an interesting match for sure and a big one for Katie with the US Open on the line (may still need a final to be sure, but she'll definitely have to beat Li). A lot of the top seeds (1,2,4) have gone out so it has opened up a bit, even more so if #3 Li can follow them tomorrow. Come on Katie indeed - really hope she keeps it going, and hopefully it is on at a convenient time (and streamed). I see Li has been made the pre match fave at generally 1.45, whereas Katie is around 2.55, which roughly translates to 1/2 v 6/4 in 'proper' odds.
I think that's Katie the sole remaining GB female representative at W25+ level this week following Eden's retirement earlier. She's 2nd on Court 1 where plays starts at 3pm and will be streamed again.
Shame I will be at work and miss this - following Katie's mini slump at the start of the season, it has been really heartwarming to see her go on a run here and hopefully she can win again - I feel she is so much better than her rankings suggest, and it is not anything technical holding her back, just self belief and confidence, which will hopefully grow again, once the results improve. Go Katie.
Ah, I got that wrong - it's a 4pm start, I swore I read 3pm earlier, so Glatch-Anderson is due to start in 20 minutes or so and Katie will follow on from then whenever that is complete.
The match before Katie's has finished, in fact both that started at 4.10 have - there's been a lot of quick wins here this week, so Katie should be on soon.
