Woking entry list

Re the strength of the list, if Raina is now the top seed and the only top 200 player, that really is not a scary prospect. She is hardly playing like a top 200 player at the moment - her points are all from quite a while ago.

Myrtille Georges has also barely won a match for 6 months, although that's partly because she was playing up and has now dropped back down to 25ks.

Kerkhove's ranking was also mega boosted by the run through Wimbly qualis, but it could well be a bit of a fortunate streak.

All in all, there's a great chance for our player next week.

NB I note that our French friends have come in force.....

By my reckoning, the only player in the qualifying list who is still in action this week is Alice Tubello, therefore Lissey would join the 6 and 4 MDWCs in the main draw, and SBG will follow unless Tubello makes the final. Tubello came through qualifying in her German W25 event to make the QFs, and plays former very good junior Waltert tomorrow, who is starting to post decent senior results and is a fairly big betting favourite, so for additional British interest, I hope that continues.

Emily Arbuthnott is the top performer in the Division 1 of the County Cup with 11 wins out of 11. Emily Appleton is second with 10/12. Also at the top of the leaderboard and on the Woking list are Georgie Axon, Indianna Spink and Holly Hutchinson (plus Ella Taylor who withdrew 10 days ago so probably out of the running). I wouldn't be surprised to see any of these pick up some sort of WC (except Appleton who is already in). And of course Freya might get a MDWC.

Is Freya entitled to another? Has she had her max? I've not really kept track but she's had at least two MD ones

I thnk she's had 2 MDWC and 3 QWC this year.

Edit - maximum of 6 permitted, with maximum of 3 main draw

I'm never sure on this, will the likes of Emma who have withdrawn be automatically excluded from getting a MDWC? I thought her withdrawing might have been in relation to her receiving a MDWC, but it will be a bit disappointing if she isn't involved here, given the field.

Yeah Freya has had 2 ITF MDWCs at Shrewsbury and Glasgow, but just played normal quallies at the April double header at Bolton and Sunderland. Had 3 QWCs at WTA events over the grass, so should be fine to receive another MDWC here.

Edit - If she's only allowed one more MDWC, then it may be more worth her while playing quallies here and getting that MDWC for Chiswick. She'll be near enough top Q seed at Woking, while, although there's still another week for withdrawals, she might not even be a top 8 seed at Chiswick, so probably more chance her coming through quals at Woking (on paper anyway...cry)

It's great that so many girls are going to get in here, but a bit of a shame that more of the others haven't put themselves down for Dublin - it's practically a home event, and the standard drops down really low, in terms of ranking needed to get in.

Looking at the Woking alt list and the Dublin list, I doubt whether any of those who miss out on Woking would get in to Dublin. The last few qualifying places are on national rankings and only two or three would actually get in at most.

Fair point. But given the hoo-hah about lack of events, any 'local' event that allows you in on national ranking alone (even if it's only a few), you'd expect to be targeted.

And we have other lowly ranked ITF players who would also have got in - I guess many players have other things going on too but, again, it seems a shame not to use this chance.

Tubello has just lost so I'm pretty sure there will be no SEs and Lissey and Beth will join the other 6 Naiktha (seed), Gabi (seed), Sam (seed), Alice (IR), Mandy (IR), Emily Ap (IR), as well as Angelica (MDWC) + 3 other MDWCs TBA - so potentially 12 in the main draw (assuming all 4 MDWCs go to Brits, which they didn't at a recent grass ITF event), and then there's qualifying as well. When was the last time there was 12 GB women in the main draw?

I had a quick look at Woking and Chiswick last year and we ended up with 9/32 at Woking - 4 directly (no seeds) 4 MDWC and 1 Q (Eden). There were 18 in qualifying, Eden was the only seed and the only one to qualify. There were also 9/32 at Chiswick - 4 qualifiers, 4 MDWCs and Maia in directly. Qualifying wasn't as strong (because the main draw was stronger) and there were 19 in there, including a few seeded Brits meaning there was a more realistic chance of getting more through.

Edit - #362 Hontama has just withdrawn late (was in main draw), so that should without a doubt see Beth in the main draw, and with it, Lily should be there too with a ranking of #518. Freya will be #1 alt.

I certainly wouldn't have imagined that Emma and Victoria would be shown as withdrawals because they were getting MD WCs. That's not really how it works, you are simply given WCs.

But whether having initially withdrawn for whatever reasons they can subsequently be given WCs I don't know, I think theoretically yes. But the relative lateness of the withdrawals strikes me that they are probably definitely out rather than suddenly going to change their minds and accept any WC.

Thanks. Yeah, it was probably more in hope than expectation, but just thought there might have been something in it with both Emma and Vic withdrawing in quick succession, those who would have probably been likely to receive one (certainly in Emma's case). Will be interesting to see who the other 3 are, even more so if Freya manages to sneak in with one more withdrawal to eliminate that possibility.

Woking Q draw is out. Lissey and Beth in as expected. Freya top Q seed so mustn't have been any last minute withdrawals, so there will be 8 GB women in the main draw.

There's 17 GB in the qualifying draw. Freya is in an all GB section so we will get one through there, and it really should be Freya as there's no real unknown quantity and she should really have far too much for the others.

Looking at the draw, I'd imagine the 4 MDWCs would be Angelica, Emily Arb, Holly H and Sasha.

I'd go along with that pick, Ace. Only other one that I didn't see was Ali Collins.
