Week 29 - ITF (W25) - Palmela, Portugal - Hard

Hmm, Maia dropped the last 4 games to lose the first set 3-6. Lee has just held at the start of the 2nd.

A lot of work to do now, just been broken, so 6 games in a row for the opponent. 3-6 0-2*.

Looking better now, 3 games on the spin herself and now a break up, *3-2.

Found another gear (or two) there did Maia. Went from 3 to 6 games on the spin, but Lee has held at the start of the third, so 3-6 6-2 *0-1

Maia wraps up a good day in singles for GB, winning the third set 6-4.

And the doubles is on the way, with Beth and Eden a set and a break up.

One early break decisive for Maia in that final set in the end. A good comeback win 3-6 6-2 6-4

Could play Julie Gervais next, who is on court in the match to follow.

She came through in the end 3-6 6-2 6-4, so pretty much exactly the same as the first round match vs the Bulgarian opponent last week (before losing to Lily). Not overly convincing scorelines, but job done and another W25 QF. Her next opponents will be following her onto court, Gervais, who gave Swan a good match earlier in the year, against Rush1ti, the Frenchwomen is favourite.

Edit - a lot of this was covered by Michael, but he was more positive with his praise wink

Yes, I was focusing more on the fact that Maia won 12 of the last 16 games!!

Beth and Eden go through 1 & 3. Their semi-final opponents will be decided by the next match on the same court

I'm not going to update Gervais progress all match, but she has started well and leads 3-0*. However, I mentioned that Calvi W25 match with Swan in April where it went to a 3rd set tie break, but I didn't realise that from the very next tournament she lost 6 matches in a row, which was only ended by her 1st round win here the other day.

Gervais won 6-1 7-5, so does face Maia in the QF tomorrow.

It's even more resounding than that. First set was 2-6, and opponent has a MP to get a bagel in the second. Eden has only held once throughout - one to move on quickly.

2-6 0-6.

I see they had met 2 times previously in the past 12 months - Eden won in 3 in Portugal (different venue) almost exactly a year ago, but then lost 3 and 1 to her in Dubai ITF in December, so a tough last couple of meetings.

Oh dear, not a good ending. Just the one deuce in the second set, and that was due to two DF by Hatouka serving for the match.

Same opponent in the doubles SF, and I don't have a good feeling about that one either.
