Week 29 - ATP 250 - Hall of Fame Open - Newport, RI, USA (grass)

L28:  (WC) Alastair Gray UNR (CH = 986 in October 2017) vs Kamil Majchrzak (POL) WR 108 (= CH)

If Ali somehow manages to win that one, he'll face the top seed, Isner, also in on a wild card, in the last 16.  cry

Sounds like his uni connections played a part.

Just a win away from probably being GB #11.

He's apparently the only Brit here in singles or doubles.

Saw most of Kamil's QR2 match at Wimbly qualis against Ram - some really good tennis there.

But Ali G played some lights out tennis at Surbiton to - so you never know. Allez, Ali !

I posted this on the Week 29 thread in response to seagull's comment that there were no British entrants in ATP event this coming week:

Not true:  according to the player list on the Newport site, Alastair Gray (somewhat surprisingly, I'll give you that) should be in the main draw:

This is a special return to Newport for Gray, who was the men's champion at the Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational in 2017.

I am surprised other Brits do not try this, Dan or James Ward maybe. Brits have an impressive record here, I'd have thought James could have had a go at quailed here and next week on the hard after his Wimbledon payday with a reasonable chance of some success?

James is playing in World Team Tennis which starts today, along with Jay Clarke, Harriet Dart and most of the dubs guys.

Decent performance from Alastair so far. Lost first set 6-3 but 3-0 up in second
