First set slipped away 3-6.
Three breaks to one - first, fifth and ninth games, so the same person serving cry

Lots of breaks in the second set, but they lost out by 4 breaks to 3

SF:- Sofia Shapatava (GEO) / Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) CR 398 (186+212) [3] LOST TO Georgina Garcia-Perez (ESP) / Oksana Kalashnikova (GEO) CR173 (101+72) [1] 3-6 4-6 cry

Can't complain with 50 points for a week's work.

Will be interested to see who she partners with in Kazakhstan

It's a bit worrying that one of them was broken in all five service games, but not sure who it was.

Em is at Q2 for next week, so should be promoted into the main draw singles. Looking at the acceptance list, I can't pick out an obvious partner at the moment but there are one or two possibles.

Haha, in the song 'everywhere' means just everywhere in the States... Em has been a lot more everywhere than that wink

I'm guessing that Em might partner Mariam Bolkvadze this week - they played together in France a couple of months ago.

Yes apart from her couple of frustrating tournaments in the UK, Em has stayed largely with the Georgian connection of late...

Mariam is pretty much as British as they come. In the best way. She's got her roots but has been here so long.

I know Emily probably knows more tennis players than just about anyone else, but one of my (untested) assumptions is that she may have become friends with Sofia through Mariam. I know Georgia reasonably well, and even though Mariam is based here, Georgians are one group between which there is a LOT of solidarity. (And they know how to have a good time, in the nicest of ways, much better than us Brits do wink)
