Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - mixed doubles

Serena has lots of dubs experience, and titles to prove it. Andy has some, mostly with Jamie, but was tentative, coming back from injury, and so didn't play anywhere near to the standard that he has been previously capable of, and they hadn't worked on the partnership. The hype was OTT, but to say that Serena has limited dubs expertise is ludicrous!

'The pairing was superb'-hardly! To say that is to fall for the hype surrounding both. Fact of the matter is that both are excellent singles players with limited doubles expertise. They lost yesterday to the top seeded pair-who themselves lost today to an unseeded pair in straight sets!

Each to their own opinion, telstar. As long as we don't force our opinions down each others throats , then it's all good and one can choose to fall to whatever hype one wants to. No player has a 100% win record so losing to a pair (in three sets) who then lost to an unseeded pairing is irrelevant in my opinion. Even the Federers , Nadals etc  of this world have exited tournaments to lower ranked players who then lost in the next round. It's not a deal breaker, and certainly doesn't change my comment about the superb pairing.

'Superb' maybe in giving attention to doubles as a game but anything but 'superb' in execution!

telstar, have you ever counted up Serena's titles at singles and doubles?

She is very effective at winning which is rather the main point of the exercise.

Never mind...so long as Simona beats her!

Maybe...but why do so many want Federer to beat Nadal today? Answer is that he has style and flair. Nadal (and Williams) have neither.

The Guardian doesn't agree with you, telstar (although that's hardly the font of all knowledge.... smile) but they've been going on about Serena's 'sharpness at the net' and confidence in moving to the volley etc. etc.

As for me, I love watching Nadal - I find his 100% utter intensity mesmerising and the amount of top spin, and angles, quite awesome.

I'm perfectly happy whoever wins between him and Roger - may the guy who plays better on the day win.

The one I'd like to lose is Djoko. Partly because, unlike Rafa, I find his tennis recently rather grinder-like and uninspiring. And also because (from the outside) I think his behaviour on the player council has been dreadful.

Given that I don't like any of the so-called "Big Three", I couldn't care less who contests the final on Sunday.  I'll be watching the Cricket World Cup final on Channel 4 instead.  wink

Yeah same* Won't be watching the women's either.

*do actually like Rafa but not enough to watch him vs Novak.

**won't be watching cricket either but same sentiment.

Thank you for being a little clearer. You don't like her style, she is clearly not at all aethetically pleasing to you.

But you could have said that without taking up so much time saying such as she is an indifferent doubles player and that Andy ( clearly understandably still far from his best ) would have won the mixed with any of a number of top mixed doubles women.

You have effectively been going on that she is not very good. That clearly doesn't stack up and emits responses.

Now you will be far from alone in not liking her style and/or not wanting to watch her, as can be seen above. But that's very different.

She isn't very good...at playing doubles! And yes Andy would have had more chance of winning the mixed with a top woman doubles player.

Debatable - PHH and Feli did a lot of hard work when playing with Andy. Andy isn't all that match sharp yet and I think losing to Bruno and partner in R3 is probably a fair outcome.

Yes. Purely based on all the Wimbledon matches, it's Serena who'd have stood a far better chance of winning if she'd played with a decent male doubles player.

Andy took ages coming back from his last injury, looks like this one is going to be the same, if it ever happens. Still, Murena was fun even if the Muzz isn't firing on all cylinders yet.
