Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon, Great Britain - Grass

Don't know about the result of this match but, as per the qualis thread, the girl was just SO impressive live.

Looking at the tennis abstract forecasts I see Venus is the 87% favourite to win her match against Gauff. I would have thought it would be somewhat closer than that?

Yes, this is rather like watching Venus play her younger self. And I do think the younger Venus is more likely to beat the older one these days (even if a very young, younger Venus) wink

What has happened to Osaka .

She wins two grand slams and then fires her coach and since then the wheels have come off.

Yes, junior champ last year, a QWC this year, won her 3 q matches for the loss of only 14 games in total... Draws Venus, who together with Serena was her inspiration to play tennis, in the first round.. the rest is history.

Oh, the errors of not following the junior threads, Jon

Don't think she was junior champ at Wimbly last year though, Michael. That was Iga. Cori's won the French. And was the youngest ever US junior finalist, at only 13.

She's just a prodigious talent. Youngest everything, just think of the list.

And has played at Roehampton, in the G1 event, and now in qualis.

Yes, you're right of course CD. She's just brilliant though, junior Wimbledon winner or not. Lovely to watch and see both play and her reaction to winning and being interviewed smile

I thought Naomi got a little ahead of herself after the Aus Open, and whatever the back story it didn't seem a great time to be firing her coach. She'll come back down to earth again though, probably won't do her any harm to get back to basics again. Big points for her coming up in the next couple of months of course.

Shes really lost her way.  But she needs to accept she will get a lot of media attention , its parts of the game . No one knows yet exactly why she fired her coach . Its all a bit of a mystery .

Doesn't matter why Osaka fired her coach - he is now coaching Kiki Mladenovic. Wonder if Osaka is going to have a terrible year like Kerber did in 2017? Kerber didn't much like all the expectations of being no1 and the pack leader as it were. Although I think she also ended up changing coaches at the end of '17.
