Well to make out Serena ( or Williams?! ) has basically achieved what she has just through brute force and hitting the ball hard ( gee, just so consistently hitting the ball at all and so accurately takes something many pros lack ), on top of posts in the mixed thread, if not discriminatory ( and I can understand CD's comments ) is surely disingenuous unless telstar truly believes such stuff in which case other adjectives may apply.
An awful match, over in less than an hour due to UEs. Terrible for tennis.
I didn't think so. I thought Simon played some amazing tennis, just motored and motored out there, not only reaching balls you never thought she'd get to, but putting real vim on the ball when she did get there.
Most of Serena's errors were forced errors, in my view, forced by pressure, and the knowledge that she had to absolutely hit the lines or Halep would be there.
It certainly wasn't a classic. But it was high level tennis.
I think Simona was brilliant, running down, hitting amazing shots. Serena threw in a couple of winners, but mostly lost it due to all the UEs. and the 3 pundits all called it wrong!
Just watching Sue Barker interviewing a joyful Simona Halep. Tennis wise what is it that Rumania has got that we haven't got? Our best player Johanna Konta just finished the 2nd week by getting more criticism over her attitude to the media rather than anything on the tennis court. This criticism has extended to 4 days in our papers. If you look at the juniors it was won by a player from war torn Ukraine. Tennis wise what is it that Ukraine has got that we haven't got? I read in the paper today that Peugeot are supporting 2 boys and 2 girls NEXTGEN 2019. However looking at the results of Victoria Allen and Armani Banks in the juniors there isn't any cause for optimism there.

I'm happy to discriminate against players who, I feel, rely on strength rather than skill. I fail to see why that is being 'disingenuous' or indeed any other adjectives which you imply! I also feel that it is discriminatory against other top players to refer to one by her Christian name and others by their surnames
Well I thought it was a terrific match despite the score line. I didn't intend watching but switched on briefly when I saw Simona was a break up and was completely captivated by the amazing standard of tennis she was playing. Serena's lack of match play this season caught up with her today as she had neither the speed nor the fitness to compete with a player who was covering every inch of the court and making superb returns on every point. If she wants to win another slam I think Serena really has to do some serious conditioning work or the likes of Halep, Barty, Osaka will always have the edge when it counts most.
