The lack of rhythm is causing the unforced errors though - it's very smart by S.

But really, she had that first set wrapped up....

It's the French open again. She was so tight at 5-4* in the breaker

Bad day at the office for Jo

Kudos to Strycova! But you've got to feel Konta got tight and let her opponent back into set 1, which gave her the confidence to keep pushing. Really disappointed in Konta's performance, but who expected her to get a GS SF and QF in 2019 at the beginning of the year?

A really bad day at the office, such bad service stats and UEs. Such a shame. I hope that she can regroup, but I must admit I really am concerned about her head again. Yes, Babora played well, but you are in control of your serve, and Jo wasn't. Looks like she really doesn't play well against tricky players either. Sigh, I just hope Murena win.

Jo does better in these GS matches when she's up against a top player. It's like being heavy favourite burdens here. She looked very cumbersome and mechanical today, especially on the forehand.

The Czech Republic are lucky .They are not dependent on the fortunes of one player. If Kvitkova and Ka.Pliskova lose  they still have Strycova, Siniakova and now Muchkova to follow the fortunes of. For us it is Jo or nothing. Even if she had won today  I wouldn't have fancied her chances against Serena.

Have you all heard the interview?
I'm sure there will be different views but, for me, for her to say the guy was being patronising and disrespectful and all that, just because - as a journalist - he asked her if she felt she'd played some important points poorly, is completely out of order.

It's a fair question, Jo. Your pat answer of 'my opponent played amazingly ' does not cut it

That is a GB issue in general and one we have almost always had

QF: KONTA, Johanna (GBR) 19 18 lost to STRYCOVA, Barbora (CZE) 54 6-7(5) 1-6

That's the 2nd time they have played and the 2nd time Strycova has won. Jo certainly wasn't serving as well today as she has been and without her service advantage she was left trying to work out an answer to Strycova's tricky variation. As a result Jo's confidence seemed to ebb away. Maybe Jo needs to work with her coaches to find a way to cope both technically and psychologically with tricky players.

Chris Evert and Chandra both said end of match Jo could not handle the lack of pace and had no plan B

Plus a certain very recent slam finalist, very much on the rise. The likes of Kr Pliskova will almost feel like an afterthought, yet she'd be one of our leading lights.

But at least Jo is back to making the latter stages and keeping GB interest into the second week as that was also looking unlikely just a few months ago.

The Czechs really do have the numbers ova us.

As much as I point to our increased, relative decent numbers for us, between WR 100 and WR 300, that is clearly way back down in a slightly different league.
