Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon, Great Britain - Grass

Well 2 into the 3rd round is lovely to see.

R64: Harriet DART (GBR) [WC] 182 beat Beatriz HADDAD MAIA (BRA) [Q] 121 (CH:58 Sept17) 7-6(4) 3-6 6-1
R64: Johanna KONTA (GBR) [19] 18 beat Katerina SINIAKOVA (CZE) 38 (CH:31 Oct 18) 6-3 6-4
R64: Heather WATSON (GBR) [WC] 122 lost to Anett KONTAVEIT (EST) [20] 20 (CH:14 April 19) 5-7 1-6

R32: Harriet DART (GBR) [WC] 182 vs Ashleigh BARTY (AUS) [1] 1
R32: Johanna KONTA (GBR) [19] 18 vs Sloane STEPHENS (USA) [9] 9 (CH:3 July 18)

Duplicate I see, but hope those are two good third round matches - Harriet that she can give Ashleigh a game, and Jo that she can prevail over the unpredictable Sloane.

Both those should be on main courts, one would imagine, Saturday will be a good day. Wimbledon proving a week of two halves - the Tues/Thurs/Sat days seem to have more of the stars and more of the Brits and feel like anyone attending the other days has drawn the short straw!

We had three out of four through to the 2nd round, two out of three through to the 3rd round both better than expected. Looking good so far.

You are right in some ways Jon, but I was quite happy to see Heather, Feliciano, Wozniacki and Gauff yesterday, even if I missed all the Brits playing doubles !

What exactly was he not impressed with - the standard of play, the court, the umpire?

Had to miss all of today's matches so far but really well done to Harriet and Jo. Lots of people never get to the third round of a grand slam. Pretty good for s wild card!

Surprising score 2-6 6-2 6-1 - Kerber must have had a problem, because Davis is not THAT good

Great to see Petra Kvitova through.

Possibly Anisimova next, which would be a fascinating match, but Anisimova is currently a set down to Linette.

No obvious sign of one. Although I take your point smile

I think she just got her rhythm all messed up

But I only saw bits so there might have been other stuff going on (certainly Lauren could barely walk at the end of set 1 and that can get in your head).

Not bad for a lucky loser though....

True in general about Davis.

I do though recall watching quite a bit of her 15-13 third set R3 loss to Halep at the 2018 Australian Open which was not just epicly long but very good play for much of it from both ( Halep went on to lose the final to Wozniacki ). She has a May 2017 CH 26. Seemed to have lost her way rather in the last 17 months.

But would you have made such a remark if Davis was British and had just ousted the number 5 seed and defending champion?  Don't get me wrong Kerber been in poor form this year but Davis did qualify for the French Open last month and pushed Konta to 3 sets in the second round and been Top 50 before as we all know. Ok everyone is entitled to their view - personally I don't think Harriet Dart is THAT good and has been lucky to not have had the pressure of qualifying and then face a lucky loser and a qualifier who got a bit hampered towards the end. But as you would say she has made the most of her opportunity - as Davis has made the most of hers.

Davis is a scrappy wee thing. Makes the most of it.. it's just another day in the WTA tour, innit?
